Ramkumar enters quarters of Florida Challenger

Ramkumar Ramanathan beat James Mcgee of Ireland 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the pre-quarterfinals of the $75,000 Challenger in Florida.

Ramkumar Ramanathan overcame a first set defeat to progress to the quarterfinal of the Florida Challenger.

Davis Cupper Ramkumar Ramanathan continued to assert his big game as he tamed James Mcgee of Ireland 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the pre-quarterfinals of the $75,000 Challenger in Tallahassee, Florida.

In the quarterfinals, it will be another big test for the 22-year-old Ramkumar against fourth seed Guido Andreozzi of Argentina.

In doubles, top seeds Leander Paes and Scott Lipsky (of the US) made the quarterfinals.

Prarthana Thombare, who had won the Asian Games bronze with Sania Mirza, made the doubles final of the $100,000 ITF women’s event in partnership with Fang Ying Xun of China. In the final, the Indo-Chinese pair will take on Chinese duo of Han Xinyun and Ye Qiu Yu.

Olga Doroshina of Russia stopped Ankita Raina in straight sets in the quarterfinals of singles, and partnered compatriot Polina Monova to beat Ankita and Veronika Kapshay in the doubles semifinals.

Four-time national champion Prerna Bhambri went down fighting in three sets to Nudnida Luangnam of Thailand in the quarterfinals of the $15,000 ITF women’s event in Hua Hin.

In the men’s $25,000 tournament in Karshi, Uzbekistan, Vishnu Vardhan was beaten in the singles quarterfinals, but combined well with Sriram Balaji to make the doubles final.
