Sushil Kumar lost 9-11 to Azerbaijan's Khadzhimurad Gadzhiyev in the opening round of the men's freestyle 74kg category in the World Wrestling Championships on Friday at Nur-Sultan, Kazhakstan.
Parveen was the only Indian to advance to the second round on the seventh day as he beat Korea's Sue Changjae 12-1 to enter the second round of the 92kg category.
Changjae, seeded 16th, was unable to match up to Parveen throughout the bout and managed to win just one point. The referee declared Parveen as the winner on technical superiority with 55 seconds left on the clock.
However, Parveen missed out on a spot in the quarterfinals as he lost 0-8 to Ukraine's 14th seed Liubomyr Sagaliuk in the next round.
In the opening period, Sushil managed to send Gadzhiyev off the mat and led 8-2. However, Gadzhiyev fought back to cut the Sushil's lead to 9-6. Gadzhiyev made a fine comeback and managed to push Sushil off the mat to take a 10-8 lead and then won a bonus point to triumph 11-9.
Commonwealth Games gold medallist Sumit Malik also had a disappointing start in the 125kg men's freestyle category as he lost 2-0 to Hungary's Daniel Ligeti in the opening round.
Earlier in the day, Karan Mor lost 7-0 to Uzbekistan's Ikhtiyor Navruzov in the men's freestyle 70kg category qualification round of the Wrestling World Championships.
However, both Sushil and Karan still have a chance to win a medal through repechage, should their opponents reach the final.
