M.R. Arjun and Dhruv Kapila on Thursday advanced to their first ever men’s doubles quarterfinals of the BWF World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
The Indian duo beat Singapore’s Hee Yong Kai Terry and Loh Kean Hean 18-21, 21-15, 21-16 in a thee-game thriller to seal a top eight spot in a match that lasted just under one hour.
Arjun and Dhruv were on top of their game, with inch perfect smashes and perfect defenses which ensured that they overturned their early first game set back.
Later in the day, Saina Nehwal will be in action in the women’s singles event, followed by Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty’s men’s doubles match. H.S. Prannoy will also among the Indians that play today, he takes on compatriot Lakshya Sen.
