India has continued its hot form at the ongoing World Youth Women’s Boxing Championship, with Nitu, Jyoti Gulia, Sakshi Choudhary, Shashi Chopra and Ankushita Boro providing the host nation gold medals on Sunday.
In the 48kg final, Nitu defeated Zhazira Urakbayeva of Kazakhstan, the 11th seed, by a unanimous decision; Jyoti defeated Ekaterina Molchanova of Russia in the 51kg category final, and Sakshi defeated Ivy-Jane Smith of England in the 54kg category. In the fourth final of the day - in the 57kg category - Shashi Chopra beat Vietnam's Do Hong Ngoc via a split (4:1) verdict. Ankushita got India its fifth gold medal of the day, defeating Ekaterina Dynnik.
On Saturday, Nitu and Sakshi Chaudhary (56kg) won their respective bouts to join compatriots Jyoti Gulia (51kg), Shashi Chopra (57kg) and Ankushita Boro (64) in the finals.
Nitu had defeated Yuan Nie with a 4-1 verdict before her final on Sunday. Jyoti, on Friday, had defeated Kazakhstan's Zhansaya Abdraimova 4-1. Sakshi had defeated Japanese Sena Irie. Shashi had defeated Mongolian Namuun Monkhor 5-0.
