Viswanathan Anand easily drew with defending champion Levon Aronian in 31 moves of Ruy Lopez in the first round of Norway chess tournament here on Monday.

In the only decisive game of the day, involving two of the strongest players in the world, top seed Magnus Carlsen prevailed over second seed Fabiano Caruana in 77 moves. The two will also clash for the World title in November in London this year.

This elite has attracted eight of the top-10 players and could well end up as the strongest field of the year.
