With five rounds to go, Anand was in the company of second seed Fabiano Caruana and third seed Ding Liren at 3.5 points.

After the action resumed following a day of rest, the players chose to play it safe.

Anand and Anish Giri were involved in an equal battle in Sicilian Defence. The players battled till the last pawn was off the board on the 54th move.
