As the cricketers of Team Rajasthan took the field on Saturday morning for their Ranji Trophy game against Jharkhand, they had a surprise visitor. Union sports minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore walked up to the cricketers of both the sides at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium to exchange customaries.

In his short visit to the stadium, Rathore made it a point to talk to the cricketers for a while. "Since he is from Jaipur, we had requested him to come for one of the games and today, during his visit to the city, he came over," Sawai Mansingh Stadium curator Taposh Chatterjee told  Sportstar .

After spending a few minutes with the players, Rathore had a chat with the ground staff and the other members, where he made it a point to inquire if everything was well. "He spoke to all of us and it was a nice meeting," one of the groundsman, who has been working at the SMS for years, said.

Even though state ministers have time and again visited Ranji Trophy games in the past, this is one of the rare occasions when the union sports minister came to watch the proceedings in a Ranji Trophy match.

Ever since taking charge, Rathore has put the players first. A couple of days back, he went on a surprise inspection at the sports hostel in Jaipur's Vidyadharnagar to look after facilities. Unhappy with the way things are being handled, Rathore asked the hostel authorities to immediately improve the basic infrastructure.
