Virat Kohli says that M.S. Dhoni remains an "integral part" of India's limited-overs side after he was left out of the Twenty20 squad to face Australia.

Rishabh Pant got the nod as wicketkeeper for the three-match T20I series in Australia this month. Kohli insisted that former captain Dhoni still has a big part to play for his country in white ball cricket despite being omitted.

"I think the selectors have already addressed this, if I'm not wrong. And, he's been spoken to firstly. I don't see any reason why I should be sitting here and explaining that," said the India skipper.

"I think the selectors have come out and explained exactly what happened. I think people are putting too many variables into this situation, which is not the case. I can assure you of that."

"He's still a very integral part of this team and they just feel, in the T20 format, someone like Rishabh can get more chances."

"It has got nothing to do with anything that other people are thinking and I, as captain, can certainly assure you of that."
