KKR 109/3 in 12 overs: Lalit Yadav to Rana, loud appeal for lbw. Not given. Pant reviews. Wickets missing and DC lose a review. Rana survives. SIX! Rana hammers one over deep mid-wicket for six. - START OF CHASE -

An excellent finish from DC after being pegged back by quick wickets. "Love watching Warner bat from the non-strikers' end. Their plan was to bowl the slower ball towards the side of the longer boundary, and we had that in mind," says Shaw.

The last two overs went for 39 runs. And that partnership between Axar and Shardul was worth 49 off 20 deliveries (unbeaten). It made sure the finishing touches were provided after an excellent start given by the openers, who put on 93 runs. Warner's first half-century meant he is back in form now. Join us, in a bit, for the run chase.

DC 215/5 in 20 overs: Last over. Cummins to bowl it. Slower delivery - it's full, outside off-stump, hit over the head of the mid-on fielder for four runs. Then he flicks clumsily to midwicket and there's enough time to pick up two runs. Then he plays the ball to long-on for a single.

Slower delivery again, short of a length outside off, Axar's hand comes off the bat as he lofts one to extra cover. Two runs. Slower ball again, Axar comes down the track and pulls to midwicket for a single. Last delivery: six! Overpitched, on off-stump, lofted to midwicket, just makes it over the boundary paddings.

DC 199/5 in 19 overs: Shardul tees off! Umesh bowling his final over. Length ball to Shardul, who slogs to cow corner for six runs! Followed up by a full delivery outside off - yorker length - left alone by the batter. What a superb shot! Half-volley outside off-stump, lofted to extra cover for six! One run off leg byes.

Half-volley on off-stump, lofted straight behind the bowler's head for six more! This time it's Axar. Half-volley outside off-stump, carved through extra cover for four more! That went like a bullet. A huge over for DC.

DC 176/5 in 18 overs: Shardul has a go at a short and wide delivery but doesn't time it. Fortunately, it doesn't carry to the fielder. One run. Axar tucks to the leg side for no run. Nicely fielded by the bowler. And then a slower delivery, short, pulled away by Axar to fine leg for four runs! Axar attempts the pull again, can't put bat to ball. Single. Slowe delivery, slogged clumsily by Shardul to deep midwicket for a single.

Short, slower delivery again: pulled to long leg for a single.

DC 167/5 in 17 overs: Umesh Yadav is back into the attack. Starts off with a good-length delivery on leg stump. One leg-bye taken. Oh that hit the bat too as the ball trickled to the off-side. Full, well outside off, Warner tries to reach out to it but misses. He's deceived by the pace of the ball - it's a slower ball. And it's a no-ball. Full, outside off-stump, Warner comes across to the off-side to play the sweep, but can't put bat to ball: hits the leg and a single is taken. Oh and DROPPED! Short ball, Axar pulls but the wicketkeeper dives and can't hold on.

And out! Warner is out! Length ball, clubbed to midwicket, and Rahane takes the catch! Shardul is the new batter, drives uppishly to point. No run. Fast, short, Axar steps out for a belligerent stroke but the ball is too fast for him and he ends up leaving it alone.

David Warner c Rahane b Umesh 61 (45b, 4x6, 6x2)

DC 162/4 in 16 overs: Narine comes on to bowl his final over. Powell attempts a slog-sweep on the first ball, but he mistimes it. Instead, the ball balloons up, there's strength on it but enough to clear the ground; the fielder at deep midwicket takes the catch.

Time for the strategic time-out. Axar Patel defends the ball back to the bowler. Full, on off-stump, coming in, defended again. Tucked to deep square leg for a single. Warner attempts to play the ball to mid-on for a single, but there's no run as the ball is fielded by the bowler. A dot to finish also. What a spell, in the context: 2 for 21 in four overs.

Rovman Powell c (sub) b Narine 8 (6b, 1x6)

DC 161/3 in 15 overs: Varun bowling his final over. Warner cuts for a single. Rovman Powell, the new batter, drives to cover for a single. Warner cuts again, single again. Powell tees off! Full, on off-stump, slogged to deep midwicket for six runs! Attempts to defend but gets an inside edge on to his pads and the ball trickles into the off-side - no run. Powell drives to extra cover to pick up a single.

DC 151/3 in 14 overs: And Lalit Yadav's stay at the crease comes to an end quickly. Lalit tries to sweep the ball, but misses. It's a bit slower to him than he expected. Hits the thigh - actually his stomach - and it's plumb in front of the wickets. An excellent over from Sunil Narine - just three singles from it.

The 150 is up for Delhi Capitals.

Lalit Yadav lbw b Sunil Narine 1 (3b)

DC 148/2 in 13 overs: Warner needs three more runs to get to his half-century. He gets a short and wide delivery from Russell, cuts to deep point for two runs. Slower delivery, on a good-length, lofted down the ground for six! The fielder at long-on tries his best but can't pluck the catch. The ball is just beyond his reach - Varun. He jumps and gets a hand to it.That's the fifty for Warner!

Warner gets a short delivery outside off, plays a cut and gets a single. Russell not happy that the fielder in the deep didn't go for the catch. Pant pulls to the leg side for two runs. And out! Short ball, Pant plays cut and doesn't keep it along the ground as he had to reach out to it- the fielder at deep point takes the catch.

Lalit Yadav has come out to bat, pulls to midwicket for no run.

Rishabh Pant c Umesh b Russell 27 (14b, 4x2, 6x2)

DC 137/1 in 12 overs: Pat Cummins back into the attack. First delivery: pulled to deep midwicket for a single. Pant cuts the ball to point for a single. Oh and Warner gets hit on the waist bone. Tried to play the pull but was too early on it. Pant pulls to fine leg for a single. Warner flat bats to long-on for a single. It's a slower ball. And a slower ball next up - to Pant as well, who is deceived by it and cannot put bat to ball as he attempts the hook shot. Last delivery: length ball, on off-stump, tonked over the bowler's head for six! Twelve off the over.

DC 125/1 in 11 overs: Pant gets a nice length ball from Varun; plays an excellent slog-sweep for six to cow corner! Oh and a reverse-sweep to fine leg for four more! Wasn't fully in control of it - the bat slipped out of his hands as he played that stroke but fell away from the stumps. Tucks the ball to the leg side for a single - it's a no-ball.Four byes! Warner shapes up for a switch hit but the ball evades him and the wicketkeeper and runs away for four byes. It's another no-ball. Warner makes room and slaps the ball to deep midwicket for two runs. And then he flays the ball to deep extra cover for four more! Last delivery: played to midwicket for a single.

DC 101/1 in 10 overs: Sunil Narine bowling his second over. A single to the leg side (leg byes) is followed up by a single through third man, then a single by Warner through mid-on. Pant plays the sweep shot to fine leg and gets a boundary. It brings up the 100 for DC!

DC 93/1 in 9 overs: C. V. Varun to bowl his second over. Shaw works the ball to leg for a single. A reverse-sweep once again from Warner! And it's gone in the gap between slip and backward point for four runs! Short of a length outside off-stump, hit away to long-off for a single. BOWLED! Sneaks through! It was a full delivery on off-stump, spinning into the batter; Warner shaped up for a defence but left a gap between bat and pad. The ball snuck through and hit timber.

Captain Rishabh Pant is the new batter. Full, outside off-stump, driven back to the bowler. Oh he tries to play the paddle sweep but doesn't get bat to ball. The impact would have been outside the off-stump. So KKR wasn't keen on an lbw appeal.

David Warner b Varun 51 (29b, 4x7, 6x2)

DC 87/0 in 8 overs: Venkatesh Iyer into the attack now. Warner works the ball to deep midwicket for a single, and Shaw does the same, for a single. DC 68/0 in 6 overs: Sunil Narine in the attack now. Shaw flicks to midwicket for a single. Warner tucks to midwicket, no run. A direct hit at the non-strikers' end would have ended Shaw's innings. Oh and a reverse-sweep from Warner! Scoops it over the head of the slip fielder for a four through third man. Then picks up a single through leg. Shaw gives himself room to play an aggressive stroke but gets an edge instead, the ball falls short of third man.

Then a sweep to fine for four more! Shaw plays a nice sweep shot to end the sixth over.

DC 58/0 in 5 overs: Time for spin. C. V. Varun into the attack. Full, on off-stump, played to midwicket by Warner for no run. Gets a knee on the ground and fetches it from outside off-stump and crack! Smashes it to cow corner for six runs! On a good length, on middle-stump, tucked to midwicket for no run. Yorker-length delivery, dug out to mid-off for no run. Short of a length, just outside off, Warner tries to cut but gets an under edge. One run. Full, on middle-stump, to Shaw, who flicks to midwicket for a single.

DC 50/0 in 4 overs: Pat Cummins into the attack now. Short and wide, first up, cut fiercely for a four through point. Width again, and cut again, this time through cover, for another four. Oh and an edge! Falls just short of the wicketkeeper. Opened the face of the bat to guide the ball past the 'keeper. Taps the ball towards the off-side for a single. Short of a length to Shaw, who defends the ball to the bowler.

Shaw gets some medical treatment. And an excellent stroke to finish the over: length ball, on middle-stump, clubbed away to midwicket for four runs!

Back of a length again, on off-stump this time - defended. Short and wide- but not too wide - Shaw tries to cut but he's cramped for room. Awkwardly hits it to the fielder at cover. Four more , as Umesh drifts down leg and Shaw glances it fine. Last ball: defended from the crease.

--

1525 IST: Rahane, Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana need more runs for KKR, whose batting has been shored by Andre Russell, Sam Billings and Venkatesh Iyer. Umpires come out, Chris Gaffaney waves to the crowd. The KKR team makes a huddle and then comes out to the field; DC's openers walk out as well.

1515 IST: Main thing is keeping it simple, off-spinner Sunil Narine tells broadcasters. He may have picked only two wickets so far, but as usual, he has been economical. It's 4.25, his economy rae, after three matches. On a pitch with pace and bounce, taking the pace off would be a good strategy, just to change things up and unsettle the batters, and that's where the role of Narine and Kuldeep Yadav becomes crucial.

1500 IST: Time for the TOSS - Shreyas Iyer wins toss, to bowl first. "It's essential for us to maintain the same rhythm throughout," says Shreyas. No change in the team. Rishabh says he doesn't mind batting first; o ne change for DC - left-arm fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed comes in for Anrich Nortje .

2-2
David Warner (left) and Rishabh Pant chat ahead of the game. - BCCI/IPL

KKR is at the top of the points table, but Shreyas says his team needs to take positives out of this nice little winning run thus far and be consistent.

1455 IST: PITCH REPORT - Darren Ganga says the pitch is very hard at the Brabourne Stadium, there's an even covering of grass. Expect batters to be able to hit through the line and fast bowlers to be able to gain bounce. Fast bowlers will be in focus, he says. Of course, a run fest could result.

1445 IST: David Warner says the league has become more professional over the years. He hopes his team can perform better than KKR in the fielding department, because "that's where the game is won and lost." Warner, of course, is due for some runs in the IPL.

PREVIEW

After waylaying Mumbai Indians in its opening match, Delhi Capitals has flattered to deceive against debutants Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants. The Capitals failed to chase a middling target against the Titans while against the Giants it slipped badly after the Prithvi Shaw super show.

The two successive defeats have put pressure on the team’s famed batting line up which hasn’t quite lived up to the pre-tournament hype.

READ |

Rishabh Pant and company struggled to force pace against the Giants' spinners and failed to post a challenging total. The Capitals’ foreign imports David Warner and Anrich Nortje had an eminently forgettable debut against the Giants.

The duo appeared rusty but their form will be crucial to Giants further success in this tournament. The misfiring bunch has its task cut out when it takes on the in-form side Kolkata Knight Riders at the Brabourne Stadium on Sunday.

The Pat Cummins inspired annihilation of Mumbai Indians was Knight Riders’ second straight win. Umesh Yadav has rediscovered his mojo and has given his team crucial breakthroughs with the new ball.

READ |

The mystery spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine have continued to tie the opposition batters in knots. The opposition teams haven’t been able to dominate the Knight Rider’s bowling and it has made things easier for the batters.

Though there is an element of inconsistency among its top-order, the fact that Knight Riders bat deep and with powerful hitters in the line-up, it has been able to snatch comeback wins this season. As current table topper, the Knight Riders goes into the match as the favourite and is the team to beat.
