Former Test cricketer Madan Lal on Sunday officially threw his hat into the ring for the DDCA elections by announcing his desire to contest for the post of association president.

Lal, who is also the chairman of the court-appointed Cricket Advisory Committee to oversee the daily workings of the DDCA, would become the third Test cricketer to try and get into the administration of the game in the city. Former India opener Chetan Chauhan had earlier been working president of the DDCA while Bishan Singh Bedi had fought but lost elections.

Madan Lal has the backing of suporters of the C. K. Khanna and Chauhan group. Khanna is the acting BCCI president and Chauhan has served the DDCA in various capacity in the past – as a player, administrator, selector and curator.

The Madan Lal group has the backing of many domestic and international cricketers. Madan Lal becomes the third candidate to join the battle for the president's slot after India TV editor-in-chief Rajat Sharma and Supreme Court Bar Council president Vikas Singh.

Vikas Singh has entered the fray on the strength of support from the DDCA Members Front claiming it to be a fight against corruption in the association.
