Shaw, Rahane boost for Mumbai in Vijay Hazare semis

Rohit Sharma, teenage sensation Prithvi Shaw and seasoned batsman Ajinkya Rahane are the three players who will turn out for Mumbai in the semis.

Prithvi Shaw had played in the initial part of the tournament before making a spectacular debut in the Test series against the Windies.

After a dream Test outing with the Indian team, youngster Prithvi Shaw will feature in the Vijay Hazare Trophy semifinals for Mumbai. India vice-captain, Ajinkya Rahane, who had led the state team in the first-half of the tournament will also make himself available for the last-four stage fixture.

Rohit Sharma — who featured in the quarterfinal clash against Bihar — will be available as well, before joining India’s limited-overs side for the series against the Windies.

Mumbai’s chief selector, Ajit Agarkar confirmed the development to Sportstar . “Yes, they will be playing,” is what Agarkar wrote in reply to this publication’s text message. On Sunday, Mumbai crushed Bihar in the quarterfinal to storm into the last-four stage of the tournament — to be held in Bengaluru on Wednesday and Thursday.

Shaw, who was adjudged the Man of the Series in the Test series, had featured in the initial part of the tournament for the domestic giant. Under its coach, Vinayak Samant, Mumbai had a good run in the tournament so far, and with three of its top players available for the crucial match, the side will definitely be strengthened.

Mumbai will take on Hyderabad in the first semifinal on Wednesday.
