India vs Netherlands HIGHLIGHTS, T20 World Cup: IND beats NED by 56 runs in Sydney for second win

Lucky for us, we had a few days to get over that special win. As soon as the game got over, we came to Sydney and regrouped. We have to move on now, and the focus was on this game where we wanted to come out and get those two points. I thought it was a clinical win. Looking at the way they have qualified for the Super 12s, credit to them. We however always looked to what we can do with ourselves, not bother about the opposition. To be honest, this was a near perfect win. Yes, we played a little slow at the start but that was the conversation between me and Virat, we had to wait to play the big shots.

Definately the noisiest crowds. It is difficult to speak to the players sometimes, but it was a great experience. We came here to win and put on a good performance, but the way those two batters played in the end just took the game away from us.

I was just trying to express myself when I went into bat. The situation was very simple, I just had to up the tempo at that time. I took one ball today (to get going), but the message was loud and clear. We had to get about 8-10 an over and get a total which our bowlers could defend easily. Very happy with the way things went. Really enjoying batting with him (Kohli), the thoughts are very clear when we both are batting.

Arshdeep on a hat-trick. Around the wicket comes Arshdeep and he slings in a yorker that slides down the leg-stump and hits van Meekeren’s pad. Low full toss and van Meekeren slaps it for FOUR through cover. Steep bouncer and van Meekeren gets some wood on it to send it for a FOUR over the keeper. Another FOUR to finish as van Meekeren hits it down the ground. India beats Netherlands by 56 runs.

Shariz nudges one past Shami for a single. van Meekeren swipes a full ball down to deep cover for another single. Width from Shami and Shariz lifts the ball over cover for FOUR.

Arshdeep flips through his variations. Shariz and van Beek pick a single apiece. A cracking yorker floors the left-handed Shariiz. The batters sneak a leg bye nevertheless. Arshdeep to van Beek, OUT! Arshdeep forces the thick-edged with a sharp bouncer to van Beek. He attempts to make room for a pull but nicks it straight to Karthik. Arshdeep comes around the wicket to new man Klaassen first ball and darts in a perfect yorker to hit the toe. LBW appeal and the umpire brushes it off but India opts for a review. THREE REDS on replays and Arshdeep is on a hat-trick!

Arshdeep returns. He strays to the pads and Tim Pringle flicks it down leg for FOUR. He follows up with a single. Bang. Arshdeep hits Edwards flush on the grille with a steep bouncer. The physios run out to have a concussion check. He is fine to resume batting. No ball from Arshdeep as he oversteps. A superb yorker on the free hit delivery.

Ashwin to Colin Ackermann, OUT! A slog-sweep from Ackermann and he holes out to Axar at deep mid-wicket. Skipper Scott Edwards walks in at 6. He gets a single. Ashwin to Cooper, OUT! Spinning away from the leg-stump line and Cooper swings it straight down to the deep square-leg fielder. Two runs and two wickets in the over for Ashwin.

Ashwin finds the leading-edge off Cooper but the ball sails over him for a single. Ashwin maintains a tighter line around the off-stump and Ackermann struggles to cut loose.

Axar to de Leede, OUT! Excellent variation from Axar by tossing one outside the off-stump. de Leede aims to cut the ball over point but mistimes it straight to Hardik. Tom Cooper in at 5.

Ashwin into the attack. Short from Ashwin and Ackermann heaves the ball across the line for FOUR. Ashwin maintains a shorter length and de Leede fails to time his short-arm jabs.

Axar varies his lengths and pace and forces the batters into a tangle. Axar darts in a quicker one as Ackermann steps out and Karthik misses a stumping chance. He is livid with himself as another tight over passes by.

Hardik into the attack. de Leed flicks the ball to deep square leg for a single. Ackermann nudges the ball towards long-on and sneaks in two runs.

Shami continues. Shami goes full and straight and de Leede drives the ball to mid-off for a single. Shami hits Ackermann on the pads with a length delivery and the ball is perhaps skidding down leg. Short ball from Shami and de Leede pulls the ball through mid-wicket. A dive from KL Rahul saves a single.

Axar Patel replaces Bhuvneshwar. Axar to O’Dowd, OUT! Full and straight and Axar hits the timber as O’Dowd shuffles across for a sweep. Colin Ackermann joins Bas de Leede. Axar pins the batters into the crease with his sharp line of attack.

Arshdeep Singh into the attack. Arshdeep attempts to shape the ball in from the off-stump but sends in a half volley which is driven beautifully through cover by O’Dowd for FOUR. Arshdeepshapes the ball across the length twice and O’Dowd does well to get his bat out of the way. A hint of room and Max O’Dowd times the ball brilliantly through point for FOUR.

Bhuvneshwar starts with an inswinger to the left-handed Vikram Singh who nudges it to the on-side. Bhuvneshwar shapes one away as Vikram steps out and leaves the ball on length. Length ball and Vikram pushes the ball to cover. Three dots on the trot. Similar length and Vikram finds the cover fielder once again. A cracking inswinger yorker. Length from Bas de Leede and Suryakumar lofts the ball over extra cover and the ball trickles down to beat three fielders for FOUR. Full this time and Suryakumar pumps the ball towards cover. A superb dive at the field saves a certain boundary. Rohit unleashes a slog-sweep but the ball falls short of the deep mid-wicket fielder for a single.

Logan van Beek into the attack. Short onto the body. Kohli steps out and nudges it to short-fine leg for a single. Rohit follows with a single to deep square leg. A quick single yet again as Kohli makes stretch with a nudge to short mid-wicket. In the slot and Rohit pumps it over wide long-on for SIX. van Beek to Rohit, OUT! Shout for lbw and they umpire raises his finger. Rohit attempts a lap shot off a slower-ball and the ball seemingly hits his pad. Rohit instantly up for the review. The replays suggest there was some glove on it. A good bouncer from van Beek to follow and Rohit tentatively pulls it down to deep square leg for a single.

Pringle slides the ball into Rohit who drives it down to long-off for a single. Kohli steps out and pushes the ball through cover for another single. Rohit Sharma: We are going to bat first. Yeah, morale is really high. Winning a game like that takes your confident to the next level but at the same time we understand we need to stay calm, just the first game of the tournament and plenty of things to happen. We have to calm ourselves and look forward to this game. We want to keep improving no matter what the results are, it always keeps you in good stead when you are thinking like that. It is important for us to keep ticking those boxes. Touch slower I guess from what we played in Melbourne. The pitch has been used for 40 overs so I expect it is going to be slightly slower. We are used to playing on such tracks. We are playing the same team.

Scott Edwards: We would have batted first as well, but just as happy having to bowl first. Our bowlers have been sensational all tournament, hopefully we can continue that and our batters can come out and perform today. Batting is the obvious one (to improve), just need to get some scores together. Same side.

Led by Scott Edwards, the Netherlands outfit may not necessarily offer the quality vibe that the football counterparts could exude at the FIFA World Cup commencing in Qatar next month. It is a fact that India’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey acknowledged in the pre-match press-conference.
