Borussia Dortmund coach Lucien Favre has extended his contract by a year to 2021, the Bundesliga runner-up said on Tuesday.

The Swiss coach guided Dortmund to a second place finish in the league, behind Bayern Munich, after joining from French Club Nice last year.

“Lucien has created clear structures and developed our players further,” praised Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc. “He’s 100 percent fulfilled expectations,” declared chief executive officer Hans-Joachim Watzke. “It’s logical that we’d want to shape the future together.”

Dortmund also made the Champions League group stage, losing to eventual finalist Tottenham Hotspur in the last 16.

The 61-year-old Favre had previously coach Borussia Moenchengladbach and Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga.
