East Bengal and Mohun Bagan registered contrasting wins in their respective Calcutta Football League premier division-A fixtures on Wednesday. East Bengal recorded its second win of the tournament defeating Aryan Club 3-0 at its home ground while defending champion Mohun Bagan had to work hard to down BSS Sporting Club 2-1 in the other match at Kalyani Stadium.
East Bengal started slowly and found the lead three minutes before the break when its seasoned midfielder Lalrindika Ralte made the most of a cross from Brandon Vanlalremdika.
East Bengal started dominating after the break and launched a barrage of attacks at the opposition goal. Aryan goalkeeper Abdul Kadir put up a commendable performance between the sticks, thwarting a good number of attacks from East Bengal.
Striker Jaime Santos Colado doubled the lead just after the hour mark when he played a one-two-one pass with Lalrindika Ralte to create the clearing in the opposition box and beat Kadir at goal. In the 89th minute, Santos made it 3-0 to help East Bengal secure full points to make it six points from three outings.
In the other match, Salva Chamorro nodded home the lead for Mohun Bagan in the 31st minute while making the most of a cross from Nongdomba Naorem. Mohun Bagan’s lead was soon neutralized by William Opoku, who got the equaliser for BSS Sporting in the 32nd minute.
Youngster Naorem helped Mohun Bagan regain the lead in the 47th minute and the defending champion held on to it for the remainder of the match to pick up its first win of the tournament.
