Peerless SC kept the contest for the Calcutta Football League (CFL) premier division ‘A’ title alive as it downed NB Rainbow FC by a solitary goal in its penultimate outing, at the Vidyasagar Stadium, Barasat on Friday.
Dipendu Dowary scored the only goal of the match in the 12th minute to secure the full quota of points for Peerless, which tallies 20 points from 10 matches to take the top spot in the current league standings.
Looking for its first CFL top tier crown, Peerless overtook 39-time champion East Bengal, which fell to the second spot on goal difference despite having same points as the former, ahead of the deciding round.

The title will be decided on Monday, which will see a simultaneous kick-off of the last three matches. East Bengal will take on Calcutta Customs Club at home while Peerless SC meets George Telegraph SC at Barasat.
Defending champion Mohun Bagan, which is virtually out of contention, will play Kalighat MS at home in the final round of matches, which will all start at 2.30 pm at the respective venues.
The advantage remains with Peerless (enjoying a goal difference of plus 11), which needs a win to secure the title. For East Bengal (having a goal difference of plus seven), the task is a bit difficult as it has to ensure a winning margin of at least six goals to overtake Peerless in case there is a tie on points.
THE RESULT:
Peerless SC 1 (Dipendu Dowary 12) beat NB Rainbow FC 0.
