Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice to put Portugal 2-1 ahead against Spain in a thrilling first half in Olympic Stadium, Sochi. Ronaldo won and duly converted a penalty in the fourth minute after Nacho tripped him just inside the box. Diego Costa pulled Spain level in the 24th minute when he turned Pepe inside out and stabbed home.
Spain dominated the possession for the most parts and created more chances with Jordi Alba’s 35th-minute backheel rolling just wide off the post. But in the 42nd minute a dreadful mistake from Spain goalkeeper David De Gea, allowed Ronaldo's low - but relatively tame – effort to creep into the bottom-left corner sending Portugal fans into raptures.
