Indian football giant East Bengal sailed through to the semifinal, as it came up with a fine performance to beat Aizawl FC 1-0, in the first quarterfinal of the Super Cup 2018, at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
It was a well-balanced game for the entire 90 minutes, before East Bengal’s Laldanmawia Ralte comfortably converted a penalty into a goal, in the injury time, to send his side into the semis. Ralte was also adjudged the Man of the Match for scoring the winner.

Although the first half began on a slow note, it was East Bengal, which had most of the chances at the goal, only to be denied by a strong Aizawl defence and also its goalkeeper Lalawmpuia.
The second half too was more or less the same, with the Aizawl keeper denying East Bengal to get the breakthrough. However, it was in the injury time, when the young goalkeeper’s mistake cost Aizawl a penalty, to be comfortably converted by Ralte.
The second quarterfinal is all set to be played on Wednesday, between Mohun Bagan and Shillong Lajong, at this very venue.
