KRYPHSA reclaimed pole position in group A of the Indian Women's League with a 4-0 victory over Baroda FA at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Friday.
Roja Devi (57') opened the scoreline before Anju Tamang (76') capitalised on an error from rival custodian Afshan Ashiq to double the lead. Three minutes later, Ratanbala Devi (79') slotted a spot-kick calmly to tighten its grip on the match before Ranjana Chanu (90'+2') headed home the final goal.
The first half ended goalless despite KRYPHSA dominating proceedings. At half time, Chaoba Devi tweaked her strategies and threw in more pair of legs into the attacking third which eventually harrowed the Red outfit to earn it a comfortable 4-0 victory.
In the 57th minute, KRYPHSA skipper Dangmei Grace dinked the ball over Baroda FA skipper Dipika from the right flank and Roja Devi didn't waste the opportunity to slot it past the goalkeeper.
The KRYPHSA attackers kept the defenders on their toes throughout but the Baroda FA defenders were able to keep them at bay until the 76th minute when Afshan Ashiq's error cost the second goal.
Three minutes later, Dipika brought down Ratanbala Devi and shouldered the responsibility to net its third goal of the afternoon.
Ranjana Chanu joined the party to take an unassailable 4-0 lead towards the business end of the match. Dangmei Grace, the skipper, played the role of an architect once again as she crossed it from the right flank and Ranjana, having outpaced her marker, headed it home in the second minute of added time.
- Kenkre defeats Bidesh XI -
Kenkre FC registered a solid 3-1 victory over Bidesh XI Sports Club in its Group B fixture at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Friday.
Soumya Guguloth broke the deadlock before second-half strikes from Jyoti and Puja Karmakar wrapped up the three points. Stessi Cardozo grabbed a consolation goal for Bidesh deep into stoppage time.
Having dictated the tempo of the game, Kenkre went ahead in the 18th minute. It was Jyoti who created the opening and with some fine footwork, curled in a left-footed attempt from the right. The attempt may have been goal-bound anyway, but skipper Soumya Guguloth got her foot to that for insurance, putting her side in the driving seat.
Following the breather, Kenkre found itself with a two-goal cushion in the 54th minute. Jyoti made an amazing run, darting down the right and with some mazy footwork, left two defenders at bay and rounded off the run with a fine finish down the keeper’s right.
It was yet again a solo effort, this time from Puja Karmakar in the 89th minute; she seemed to have lost the chase for a loose ball but through sheer persistence, won possession back and after cutting inside, got her shot away which found the bottom corner.
Kenkre’s perfect evening was somehow marred when it was caught napping on the break by Bidesh and on the counter, as Stessi Cardozo pulled one back. It was a little too late, as Bidesh XI remains elusive of its first IWL victory of the season, and remains rooted to the bottom in Group B. Kenkre, however, rises to second with six points.
