Portugal beats Liechtenstein Highlights, LIE 0-2 POR, Euro 2024 qualifiers: Ronaldo scores opening goal

Portugal continues its winning streak after the two goals coming in the second half but full props to Liechtenstein which went toe to toe and fought well against an elite side like the Selecao. It created more chances and played better in the attacking side of its game however two quick goals after the break snatched the game off of the home side’s hand.

Vitinha takes a free-kick near the box and his cross finds a solid Goncalo Ramos header that lands in the back of the net. However, VAR and the referee rule it off-side after a lengthy check.

Portugal takes a couple of shots on goal but Liechtenstein keeps it still 0-2. Felix makes a curving finish on the fsr post but misses the post by a few inches.

Liechtenstein finds Salanovic at teh edge of the box who takes a shot but it goes miles off of the target.

Felix finds the net but makes his run too early and is ruled outside.

Ronaldo has been subbed off after he scores the opening goal. Bernardo Silva and Bruno Fernandes have also been substituted.

Salanovic was played a great through ball on the left flank and the attacker was in on goal with no defenders near him. But sadly Salanovic fails to beat a charging Jose Sa, Portugal’s keeper.

Cancelo dinked the ball into an open goal as Liechtenstein’s keeper Buchel charged towards the right flank leaving his line, but Cancelo beat him to the ball with ease and scored his 10th goal for Portugal.

Ronaldo almost makes it two as he was in on goal but even after beating the keeper, Ronaldo couldnt beat the last defender..

Liechtenstein has done well andt has defied all expectationns by keeping it level with a clean sheet after the first 45. Portugal keeps trying shots on goal but Liechtenstein has turned them down time and time again. However, it needs to start creating more chances and be less megative in its style of play.

Bruno Fernandes switches wing to Cancelo who switches the wing again and puts a cross to Felix, but his shot is wide off the target.

Liechtenstein was for the first time, pushing ahead in numbers but Beck on the right win makes a terrible cross that went out for a goal-kick.

Portugal is controlling the game, however, has nort made too many great chance on goal.

Portugal makes an amazing play with quick one touch passing that finally ends at Cancelo’s feet on the right wing who makes a perfect cross in towards Gonacalo Ramos’s head, however the player misses the target right in front of goal.

Cancelo, who is looking dangerous since the get go, dribbles the ball centrally and passes it to Ronaldo who takes a shot but is ruled offside.

Diogo Jota bright down by a tackle from behind by Luchinger. Portugal gets a free-kick from 25 yards. Ronaldo takes it but fails to beat the wall.

Liechtenstein almost conceded a goal after its keeper Buchel tries to catch the ball but is knocked down by his own defender and the ball was astray. Ramos took a shot but was blocked.

Portugal is kicking the ball around hoping to find an opening but Liechtenstein’s tight backline is doing well in keeping its shape and fending the ball away. But Liechtenstein needs to push up a bit soon or else it will surely concede a goal.

Liechtenstein is slowly trying to build up an attack and is reaching Portugal’s final third. It is yet to make a decent attempt on goal but has showed commendable efforts to hold its own against Portugal.

Cancelo fouled at the edge of the box and free-kick to Portugal. Ronaldo takes it but the shot is blocked. Ruben Neves gets the ball outside the box but Buchel makes a geat save.

Cancelo dribbles into the final third and takes a shot from the outside of his boot but the ball is deflected out for a corner. The corner found its way to Cancelo again who takes a shot but deflected again.

Liechtenstein is playing deep inviting the pressure and is clearing the ball away to its front two as soon as it gets the ball.

Portugal still continues to hold possession and play in Liechtenstein’s half. Joao Felix tried to cross the ball in from left flank this time but put too much power into it.

Portugal has completely controlled the game so far. Bruno Fernandes puts a good ball into the box but the three Portugal attackers fail to collect the ball.

Portugal kicks the game off as it steps on the pitch with an attacking and aggressice starting 11 against Liechtenstein.

Liechtenstein hosts Portugal in its 9th game from the Group F of the Euro 2024 qualifiers at the Rheinpark Stadion on Friday.

Portugal comes into the game in flying form having not lost a single game in the group and is one of the first teams to qualifiy for the Euro 2024 to be held in Germany next summer.

Portugal has played eight games so far under new coach, Roberto Martinez and have won them all.

Liechtenstein on the other hand is stuck in a rut having not won a single game so far and is long out of the running for qualification. It has been 33 games without a win for the home side and will be hoping to minimise the damage when it faces a powerhouse like Portugal.

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored nine goals so far in the Euro qualifiers and is second in the overall running and will be eyeing to cash in more against Liechtenstein.
