MATCH REPORT | ISL 2020-21 news: Late Kotal goal rescues point for ATK Mohun Bagan against 10-man Hyderabad

ATKMB manager Antonio Habas: I am very disappointed with our performance tonight. We didn't win, despite playing against only 10 men. Hyderabad FC was the better side by miles. We had to win today to claim the shield. But now, we have to play against Mumbai City FC in a high-pressure game to seal the deal. We had a numerical advantage early on today and we didn't capitalise. We missed Marcelinho in the middle. He has a minor injury and I hope he's back for the next match. We have a few suspensions and hence we have to prepare extra hard for the Mumbai game. I'm expecting my players to bounce back soon and I know they will do it.

HFC head coach Manolo Marquez: This was a very good performance from my team. We were down to 10 players as early as the fourth minute against ATKMB. It's impossible to not be proud of my players because it was difficult out there. It is a shame that we conceded that last goal. But I have no complaints whatsoever. With one player less, we made it more difficult for the opponent. We attacked only when there was space. So it was difficult for them to run through us. We were a bit compact at the back. I don't know how many injury-time goals have been scored this season. They said ATKMB's second goal was offside but I don't like to complain. It's very easy to cry when the decision goes against your side and stay silent when it goes your way. Referees and linesmen can be wrong at times. We still have a good chance to make the playoffs. So we'll keep fighting. If we reach the playoffs, I will be very happy. If we don't, I'll congratulate the other four teams and move on.

Post match reaction from both the camps coming up next.....

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:

Meanwhile, Hyderabad FC is in a three-way tussle with FC Goa and NorthEast United FC for the final two playoff spots. Jamshedpur FC has officially been eliminated from the tournament as HFC has reached the 28-point mark.

29' WHAT A CHANCE! Odei Onaindia could have doubled Hyderabad FC's lead here. This was another Lluis Sastre free-kick. He supplied a ball towards the far post and the ATKMB players were sleeping inside the box. Onaindia eventually headed it over the crossbar.

26' CHANCE FOR ATKMB! Manvir Singh receives the ball on the right flank. He sends it forward to full-back Pritam Kotal, who sends a cross into the middle.  The ball is not cleared properly by the HFC defence as Subhasish Bose gets it on the other wing. However, his shot from distance is collected by keeper Kattimani.

But before he could get to the ball, Santana slotted it home amid chaos inside the box.

5' RED CARD!!!!! HYDERABAD DOWN TO 10 MEN!!! CHINGLENSANA SINGH IS SENT OFF! Roy Krishna headed the ball forward from a clearance. Onaindia came up with a weak header as the ball went towards David Williams, who was one-on-one with goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani. The seventh edition of the Indian Super League got underway inside a bio-bubble in Goa on November 20.

ISL 2020: Points Table

The tournament, spanning over four months, will see 11 teams play each other in a league and playoff format across three venues. Following the inclusion of SC East Bengal, this season will feature 115 games, up from 95 last season.

MATCH PREVIEW:

ATK Mohun Bagan would be looking to make its debut season memorable by claiming the necessary points to secure the ISL League Winners' Shield when it takes on Hyderabad FC at the Tilak Maidan in a 2020-21 Indian Super League fixture on Monday.

Hyderabad, the team from the city of Nizams, has also surprised all the doubters this season by making the top-four in the current standings. This increases the prospects of an interesting contest between the two sides.

Propelled by five successive wins, ATKMB is theoretically a couple of points away from sealing the top spot and a 2022 AFC Champions League entry. Mumbai City FC is five points behind the Mariners with just two games to go.

HFC is placed fourth with 27 points from 18 matches. It needs a win to keep itself in contention for a playoff place. What would be charging up the side is the fact that it has not suffered a defeat since the start of the year and is unbeaten in the last 10 games.

Hyderabad, which owes much of its success to the managerial skills of its Spanish head coach Manolo Marquez, will have to invoke the right motivation to get the better of one of the sharpest attacks and strongest defences in the tournament.

Mohun Bagan has scored 13 goals in its last five outings, while conceding only five times. The livewire in its forward line is Roy Krishna, the Fijian striker who is the leading goal-scorer of the ongoing edition, with 14 goals to his name.

“We play against the strongest team in the league. Mohun Bagan are in the best form in the league. They have a very compact team and have very good players for the style Antonio Habas wants to play in this moment. With Lenny Rodrigues and Marcelinho, the team is more decisive,” Marquez said.

“For me, Krishna is the best forward in the league. He can score in multiple ways. He is not tall but is clever. He is fast and knows in which moment he has to run. He is a complete centre forward,” he added.

Going by the statistics, the second half of the contest could well be the most absorbing. ATKMB has scored 21 out of its 26 goals in the second half -- which is the highest any side in the league. Hyderabad comes just behind, having scored 20 of its 25 goals in the final 45 minutes.

Mohun Bagan boss Habas lauded his compatriot Marquez for his impressive work at Hyderabad FC this season.

“Hyderabad have had a good season and we have to be confident against them. They have a good balance between their attack and defence. They have surprised everyone in the competition this season," he claimed.
