Oliver Kahn to stay in Germany

GERMANY'S international goalkeeper and captain Oliver Kahn has committed himself to another three years at Bayern Munich a week after talking about seeking a fresh challenge abroad.

The 33-year-old said he wanted to stay in Germany because the 2006 World Cup is being organised here. "It makes sense to stay in the country," he told reporters. "My heart belongs to Bayern." Kahn, at Bayern since 1994, had been linked with a move to English champions Manchester United.

Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld said in March he was worried Kahn might leave if he continued to face media pressure over his personal life. Kahn made the headlines after admitting to having an affair with a barmaid while his wife was pregnant. "I assume he will stay at Bayern until the end of his contract and he might even extend it," Hitzfeld said.
