Bopanna, Divij bow out in Stockholm

Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan made an early exit as they were beaten 7-6(5), 6-4 in the doubles pre-quarterfinals of the ATP tennis tournament in Stockholm.

Asian Games gold medallists Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan made an early exit as they were beaten 7-6(5), 6-4 by Dominic Inglot and Austin Krajicek in the doubles pre-quarterfinals of the €711,275 ATP tennis tournament in Stockholm, Sweden, on Tuesday.

In the Challenger in Ningbo, China, top seed Prajnesh Gunneswaran sailed into the pre-quarterfinals with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Max Purcell of Australia, after a bye in the first round.

In the Challenger in Germany, sixth seed Ramkumar Ramanathan was beaten 6-3, 7-6(3) by the 305th ranked Teymuraz Gabashvili of Russia in the second round after a bye. The 24-year-old Ramkumar, who fired 13 aces in the match, failed to convert any of the three breakpoints that he forced. The Russian, who was ranked a career-best 43, three years ago, converted one of four breakpoints to win the contest.

In the $25,000 ITF women’s tournament in Lagos, Nigeria, that spilt into the second week owing to rain, top seed Rutuja Bhosale and Laura Pigossi of Brazil won the doubles title, beating Sandra Samir and Prarthana Thombare 10-7 in the super tie-break. It was the second doubles title of the season for the former Asian junior champion Rutuja.
