Davis Cupper Sumit Nagal was in robust form as he beat the 101st ranked top seed Albert Ramos-Vinolas of Spain 7-5, 7-6(2) in the € 92.040 Challenger tennis tournament in Lyon, France, on Friday.
The 21-year-old Sumit, ranked 272, did drop serve six times in the match, but serve one more time against the 31-year-old Spaniard in the two-hour battle.
Meanwhile, Leander Paes in partnership with Rameez Junaid of Australia was beaten 6-4, 7-6(4) by the third seeds Ken Skupski and John-Patrick Smith in the doubles pre-quarterfinals of the Nottingham Challenger tennis tournament.
In the $25,000 ITF men’s event in Hong Kong, Sidharth Rawat rallied from the brink of defeat to beat the fourth seed and former Asian junior champion, Nam Hoang Ly of Vietnam, who had won the Wimbledon junior doubles with Sumit Nagal, 4-6, 7-6(0), 6-1 in the quarterfinals.
