Ajla Tomljanovic advanced to the quarterfinals of the Japan Women's Open despite a lengthy weather delay, but Wang Qiang could not beat the rain.

Australian fifth seed Tomljanovic defeated Zhu Lin 7-5 6-4 after heavy showers forced the players to leave the court for over two hours during the first set.

The inclement weather returned and meant Wang will have to return on Thursday to finish her second-round match against Luksika Kumkhum, the Chinese leading 7-5 3-2.

Qualifier Amanda Anisimova, 17, reached the last eight on the WTA Tour for the first time in her career with a surprise 6-1 6-1 triumph over seventh seed Zheng Saisai.
