21.30: K.C. Vijaya Kumar, Sports Editor, The Hindu, presents the Vote of Thanks.

The Lifetime Achievement Award goes to Prakash Padukone. N. Murali, Chairman, Kasturi and Sons, talks on the importance of the award and how the independent jury unanimously selected the awardee. The award is presented by Sunil Gavaskar.

N. Ram presents the Chairman's Choice Award to Cheteshwar Pujara.

This is what Cheteshwar Pujara has to say:

"It is an honour to be part of a wonderful evening. Watching the ball has come naturally to me. I worked hard in net sessions. I practice for hours and hours."

"It has been a tough journey. I lost my mother to cancer at 17. She blessed me with a good career ahead. She wanted me to be a nice human being. My father played the role of my mother too. My father has been coaching me, since I was 8. He is a strict coach. He never allowed me to celebrate festivals, always wanted me to practice for hours and hours. I am grateful he has been with me."

Sportsman of the year (Cricket) award goes to Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah. Shashank Manohar presents the award.

Virat, in a video message, after accepting the award from Shane Warne says , "For me, Sportstar used to be the posters, I used to buy every month and preserve it. It is a childhood memory. It feels good to be on the cover and take this award."

Bumrah on Kohli: He leads by an example. We, as a team, give a lot of importance to Test. He is always motivating and leading from the front.

Sportswoman of the year (Cricket) award goes to Smriti Mandhana. Eight-time table tennis national champion Kamlesh Mehta presents the award to the Sangli batswoman.

An elated Smriti says, "It is a great honour. It will motivate me to do better and score more runs for India."

Best University for the Promotion of Sports award goes to Army Schools Institute. Mithali Raj presents this award too.

Sportswoman of the year (Other team sport) is won by Gurjit Kaur.

Sunil Chhetri wins the Sportsman of the year (Other team sport) award. Noted Kabaddi player Ajay Thakur presents the award. The award is collected by the coach of Bengaluru FC, Carles Cuadrat.

Manu Bhaker says, "Thank you Sportstar. I am coming from a pratise session. I haven't changed my clothes and I am elated to be here." And as Anjali read out the name, she smirked, "I am happy." (the award has gone to a fellow shooter).

Sportswoman of the year (racquet sport) - P.V. Sindhu and Manika Batra jointly win the award. Baichung Bhutia is presenting the award. Viren Rasquinha collects the award on behalf of the sportswomen.

Sindhu says, "I am not able to come, apologies. A big thanks to Sportstar. I read and love Sportstar from a young age. It is great that Sportstar covers a variety of sports."

Sportsman of the year (racquet sport) - Sharath Kamal. Multiple national champion Niraj Bajaj, multiple TT national champion gives the award.

Sharath says, "It is fantastic to be here. I have seen most of you guys (fellow athletes) on the Sportstar posters. It gives me a lot of motivation to do more for the country. We will keep it going."

Parathlete Sportswoman of the year goes to - Deepa Malik. M.M. Somayya gives the award.

Deepa says, "Thank you for validating my journey. It is going on. When I joined the world of athletics at 40, sports became the medium that erased all my disability. "

20.11: The host thanks the jury, Sunil Gavaskar, M.M. Somayya, Anju Bobby George, Anjali Bhagwat and N. Ram, for their tireless work.

20.02: Ayon Sengupta and Mr. N. Ram, Chairman THG Publishing, take us on a flashback trail, on how The Hindu and Sportstar has grown over the years, in fact over a century!

19.45: As the panel discusses the topic, Gaurav Kalra gets some time for a comment that targets our funny bone.

 

19.35: We will have a panel discussion, moderated by Gaurav Kalra, on 'India's growth as a sports infrastructure and technology hub.'

19.30: The organising committee of Qatar 2020, Nasser Al Khater, details on his project — the FIFA World Cup. He details on how his country, the football fans lost hope after Qatar failed to qualify for the last two World Cups and how a young team, barring odds, won the Asian Cup recently and won hearts.

19.25: Ayon Sengupta, Editor of Sportstar, starts off with the welcome note. He thanks the chief minister of Odisha, Mr. Naveen Patnaik, the Qatar 2022 World Cup organising committe and thanks the athletes! He also details on the awards, the categories.

19.22: He starts off with how Ravichandran Ashwin tweeted about how the 'cover/star posters' took prime importance in one's home. In case, you missed the tweet, here it is!

The sheer replies and comments give us an understanding of how much Sportstar was/is loved.

Cheteshwar Pujara attended the Sportstar Aces Awards night with his wife, who said she's gone from not knowing cricket to knowing a little since their marriage.

17.05: The Indian women's cricket team coach W.V. Raman shares his thoughts on the Aces Awards.

Raman says, "Every event had its own factor; the common denominator was you got to meet sportspersons from different disciplines and share their views while having a great laugh."

"It gets difficult to catch up with everyone when there are around 200 people under one roof but I will try and have a word with everyone present at the function."
