Asian Games: Prajnesh settles for tennis bronze

Prajnesh Gunneswaran settled for a bronze medal after losing his men's singles semifinal match to Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin.

Prajnesh Gunneswaran settled for a bronze medal after losing his men's singles semifinal match to Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin 2-6, 2-6 at the 18th Asian Games on Friday.

He had advanced to the last-four stage in Jakarta after beating Korean player Soonwoo Kwon 6(2)-7, 6-4, 7-6(8) in the quarterfinal.

Earlier in the day, the men's doubles pair of Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan bagged gold, beating Aleksander Bublik and Denis Yevseyev of Kazakhstan. Bopanna and Sharan won the match 6-3, 6-4 in 52 minutes to claim the men’s doubles top prize, which has now gone to India for a fifth time.  

At the end of day six action at the Games, India’s total medal tally was at 25 with six gold, five silver and fourteen bronze.
