The 19-year-old Laimwon beat the previous national record of 1.75 set by Bobby Aloysius in Delhi in 1992. In the process, she also removed the meet record of 1.74 metres set by SAF Games champion M. Sangeetha in Bengaluru in 2001.

Laimwon Narzary of Assam cleared 1.77 metres in girls high jump for a national record in the 15th Junior Federation Cup athletics championships at the PAC Stadium here on Sunday.

The 19-year-old Laimwon beat the previous national record of 1.75 set by Bobby Aloysius in Delhi in 1992. In the process, she also removed the meet record of 1.74 metres set by SAF Games champion M. Sangeetha in Bengaluru in 2001.

In the boys 10,000 metres walk, Eknath Turambeker clocked 43 minutes 36.67 seconds for a national junior record. The earlier mark of 43:37.66 was against the name of Kuldeep set in Pune in 2012.

Amoj Jacob, who had won the 400 and 800 metres gold in the recent Federation Cup in Patiala, clocked 48.25 seconds for the 400 metres gold among the juniors. He had clocked 46.26 in beating the men.
