India shuttler Ajay Jayaram entered the semifinals of the US Open 300 tournament after beating Heo Kwang Hee of South Korea 21-18 21-12 in the quarterfinals here on Saturday.
Jayaram, who is making a comeback after nursing an injury, took 30 minutes to clinch the one-sided game.
Before entering the last eight of men’s singles, Jayaram faced tough oppositions in Yun Kyu Lee and Ygor Coelho in the opening rounds.
He had to earn for a victory against Lee as the game ended 26-14 17-21 21-13. Even Coelho stretched him — 19-21 21-12 21-16 — before surrendering to his grit and pace.
He will meet Dutch star Mark Caljouw in the semifinals.
