India Open 2019: Sindhu, Srikanth in semifinals; Prannoy exits

Sindhu, Srikanth and Kashyap moved into the semifinals while Prannoy lost his last-eight clash to Viktor Axelsen.

Highlights from the quarterfinal clashes of the India Open 2019.

8.54 pm: Sindhu storms into the semifinal after tough fight with a 21-19, 22-20 victory over Mia Blichfeldt. Thanks folks for tuning in, until tomorrow, good night.

8.45 pm: Sindhu now with a slim 13-10 lead in the second game.  Next she wins two successive points to make it 15-11.

8.38 pm: Sindhu takes the first game 21-19 after a tough fight against Blickfeldt. The momentum is definitely with Sindhu. Can Blichfeldt make a comeback?

8.28 pm: Sindhu manages a three-point lead to make it 17-14 in the first game. The look of says, this is not going to be an easy outing for the Indian ace.

8.21 pm: What a start this has been to Sindhu vs Blichfeldt match. Both players not giving an inch.

8.09 pm: Prannoy's campaign at India Open ends with a 10-21, 16-21 loss in the quarterfinal against Viktor Axelsen. Coming up next is, Sindhu's last-eight clash against Mia Blichfeldt.

7.49 pm: Axelsen already in the lead at the start of the second game, Prannoy really needs to pull up to stay in the hunt. The Indian shuttler claws back and reduces the deficit to 10-12.

7.34 pm: At the break of the first game, Viktor Axelsen leads Prannoy 11-5.  A fightback looks difficult as Axelsen is running away with the game.

7.25 pm: Folks, get ready for the next quarterfinal clash where H.S. Prannoy takes on Viktor Axelsen.

6:38 pm: Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Shivam Mehra don't look making a comeback — rightly said as they concede the quarterfinal clash 10-21, 12-21.

 

6.22 pm: In men's doubles, the pair of Manu Attri and B. Sumeeth Reddy take the first game 21-10 against compatriots Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Shivam Sharma.

5.36 pm: Kidambi Srikanth completes the comeback! Sensational. He wins the third game 21-19 and progresses to the semifinals!

5.34 pm: Parupalli Kashyap takes the second game and that seals his defeat of Wang Tzu Wei. 21-16, 21-11 win for the Indian.

5.30 pm: 16-16 in the third game and it's going to the wire here people. Srikanth has momentum from the second game while Sai Praneeth is fighting harder after giving away the second game so easily.

5.28 pm: Sai Praneeth leads Srikanth 12-10 while Kashyap leads Wang 13-10 in the second game.

5.22 pm: Srikanth and Praneeth are at it in the third game! It has been a close contest with the points difference more than one only once so far. The latter just edges it 8-7 but it's hard to call who will win this decider.

In the other match, Kashyap and Wang are locked at 8-8. Will we see a decider in this match also?

5.17 pm: Parupalli Kashyap wins the first game 21-16.

5.15 pm: Kidambi Srikanth has taken the second game 21-11 and that means we are into a decider.

5.10 pm: On another court, Parupalli Kashyap is playing against Wang Tzu Wei. The first game is evenly poised at 15-15.

5.08 pm: Yeah, Srikanth isn't letting this game go easily. The 26-year-old leads 11-9 now!

5.05 pm: Sai Praneeth is on song today. He takes a 7-1 lead in the second game but Srikanth isn't giving this up easily. He fights back, picks four points and now trails 7-5.

5.59 pm: Srikanth fights till 21-21 but cedes the first game 23-21 to Sai Praneeth.

4.55 pm: Comeback from Srikanth! He levels the game 20-20 before giving Sai Praneeth the lead at 21-20. Who will seal the game from here?

4.50 pm: Kidambi Srikanth and Sai Praneeth are at in on another court, with the latter leading the first game 19-16.

4.45 pm: Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy have lost to the Indonesian pair of Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu. They lost 21-10, 21-18. The Indian pair started well in the first game but the Greysia-Apriyani pair pulled away quickly. The second game was more evenly matched but the Indonesian duo steeped up at 18-18 to take the second game and seal their progress.

2:53 pm: Aparna Balan and Sruthi K.P. lose in straight games to second seed Thai pair Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajaongjai. (21-8, 21-11)

Day four of the India Open will see quarterfinals action with 12 Indians in the fray.

The two Indian women's doubles pairs have a tough task ahead of them as they come up against the number one and two seeds in the tournament.

There are two all-Indian match-ups. Kidambi Srikanth will take on B. Sai Praneeth in men's singles. Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy will face Pranaav Chopra and Shivam Sharma in men's doubles.

H.S Prannoy faces an uphill task against second seed Viktor Axelsen.
