India Open 2019: Mixed day for Indians on Day 2

Subhankar Dey produced the biggest upset by knocking out fourth seed Indonesian Tommy Sugiarto, while P.V. Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth also progressed to the second round.

Highlights of day two action of India Open 2019.

9:26pm: Parupalli Kashyap too digs deep to pull off a win in his first round match. He beats Lee Cheuk Yiu 14-21, 21-18,  21-10. That will be all from us today, do tune back for Day 3 action.

9:05pm: Parupalli Kashyap fights back by taking the second game 21-18 and has started aggressively in the decider.

8:51pm: Parupalli Kashyap loses the first game 14-21 against Lee Cheuk Yiu and now it is 10-10 in the second game.

8:14pm: What a comeback! Subhankar Dey stuns world No. 9 Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia 14-21, 22-20, 21-11.

7:50pm: Gritty stuff from Subhankar Dey as he bounces back and stays in the hunt by taking the second game 22-20.

7:42pm: Ajay Jayaram crashes out after losing his first round match 21-15, 21-18 to Wang Tzu Wei.

7:34pm: Tommy Sugiarto continues to dominate and holds a four point lead over Subhankar in the second game. In the other singles match, Jayaram is giving his best to stay alive after conceding the first game.

7:19pm: Tommy Sugiarto wins the first game 21-14 while in the other match, Wang Tzu Wei has got the lead against Jayaram.

7:06pm: In another men's singles match on Court 2, Ajay Jayaram leads 7-4 in the first game against Wang Tzu Wei.

6:58pm: Subhankar Dey faces a tough opponent in world No. 9 Tommy Sugiarto in his first round match. The clash is underway with the scores 5-5 in the first game. Meanwhile, P.V. Sindhu has moved into the second round with an easy 21-8, 21-13 victory over Mugdha Agrey.

6:25pm: Kidambi Srikanth holds his nerve to beat Wong Wing Ki Vincent of Hong Kong 21-16, 18-21, 21-19. Coming up next is Sindhu's match against compatriot Mugdha Agrey.

6:17pm: The match seems to be slipping away with Srikanth trailing by three points and the Hong Kong shuttler three points away from victory. Wait...brilliant fight back this by Srikanth as he makes it 20-19 — anyone's match from here.

6:02pm: Wong Wing Ki swing back by taking the second game 21-18. Srikanth did put up a fight till the end but not enough to stop his opposition to take it to the decider.

5:49pm: Srikanth takes the first game 21-16 but struggling in the second game and trailing 7-14 as Wong Wing Ki claws back.

5:27pm: Kidambi Srikanth's first round match gets underway with him taking on Wong Wing Ki Vincent of Hong Kong.

5:19pm: Sai Praneeth does well to bounce back and take the second game 21-13. Praneeth finally pockets the match after conceding the first game with a 22-24, 21-13, 21-8 win.

4:47pm: Kartikey Gulshan Kumar giving a tough fight and comes up trumps in the first game 24-22 against Sai Praneeth. The second game too has started with both players not giving an inch.

4:37pm: Ritika Thaker concedes the first game 6-21 and also the second as Denmark's Blichfeldt wins her first round match 21-6, 21-14.

4:22pm: Sai Praneeth and Ritika Thaker are now in action in their respective singles matches of the first round. Praneeth is up against compatriot Kartikey Gulshan Kumar while Ritika takes on Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark.

3:45pm: Gurusaidutt crashes out after losing his first round singles match to Sitthikom Thammasin of Thailand 18-21, 11-21. Next up in action will be Sai Praneeth, Kidambi Srikanth, Subhankar Dey, P.V. Sindhu and Parupalli Kashyap.

3:30pm Sameer Verma is in action against Rasmus Gemke of Denmark. He won the first game 21-18 and leads the second game 15-8. That will be all, Sameer Verma moves into the next round with a 21-18, 21-12 win.

 

3:28pm H.S. Prannoy comes from a game down to win his first round match against Kantaphon Wangcharoen 14-21, 21-18, 21-14.
