De’Aaron Fox saved five of his 15 points for the second overtime, Domantas Sabonis had a triple-double and the Sacramento Kings outlasted the Orlando Magic 138-135 on Wednesday night.
Held to 10 points in the first 53 minutes, Fox connected twice from the interior in the second overtime, the final time breaking the game’s last tie with 58.1 seconds left.
He then hit one of two free throws with 13.6 seconds remaining for the final margin of victory as the Kings won for the third time in four games by overcoming a career-best 43-point night from Orlando’s Paolo Banchero.
The Magic also lost Frank Wagner to a sprained right ankle in the sixth minute.
Sabonis finished with 22 points, 23 rebounds, and 12 assists for his seventh triple-double of the season and the eighth 20-point, 20-board game of his career. It was his first career triple-double that included at least 20 points and 20 rebounds.
Heat 110, Lakers 96
Tyler Herro scored 21 points, and rookie Jaime Jaquez Jr. added 16 points as visiting Miami turned a solid early defence into a victory over Los Angeles to end a two-game road skid.
Nikola Jovic and Bam Adebayo each scored 15 points for Miami, who had eight players score in double figures. Kevin Love had 10 points and 14 rebounds for the Heat.
Duncan Robinson had 13 points as the Heat split their two games at Los Angeles this season after losing 121-104 to the Clippers on Monday.
Anthony Davis scored 29 points with 17 rebounds and Austin Reaves added 24 points as the Lakers lost their third consecutive game as they continue to struggle after their title in the NBA in-season tournament last month.
Cavaliers 140, Wizards 101
Jarrett Allen’s dunk just over nine minutes into the game gave host Cleveland the lead for good, and Max Strus, Donovan Mitchell and Caris LeVert all eclipsed the 20-point mark in a romp over Washington.
Cleveland shot 53.5 percent overall and made 47.6 percent of its 3-pointers en route to its season-high point total and largest margin of victory of the campaign.
Kyle Kuzma had a team-high 16 points for the Wizards, who allowed at least 140 points for the seventh time this season.
Rockets 112, Nets 101
Alperen Sengun scored 30 points, Fred VanVleet added 21 and Houston turned a third-quarter rally into a victory over visiting Brooklyn.
Sengun found success with early attacks against the Nets’ defense to combat early double-teams, while VanVleet drilled six 3-pointers and doled out 10 assists. Jalen Green added 14 points and eight rebounds for Houston, which sent the Nets to their fifth consecutive loss.
Cameron Johnson and Mikal Bridges scored 15 points apiece for the Nets, who have dropped 10 of 12 games. Royce O’Neale tallied 13 points off the bench while Claxton added 12 points and 13 rebounds for Brooklyn, which shot 38.7 percent from the floor and missed 31 of 44 3-point attempts.
Clippers 131, Suns 122
Paul George recorded 33 points and seven rebounds and Kawhi Leonard added 30 points and eight boards to lead Los Angeles to a wire-to-wire victory over host Phoenix.
James Harden had 22 points and 11 assists for Los Angeles, which has won 13 of its past 15 games. The Clippers have won each of the last 11 games played by Leonard.
Devin Booker had 35 points and six assists and Bradley Beal scored 21 points for the Suns, whose four-game win streak ended. Eric Gordon had 16 points and fellow reserve Bol Bol added a season-best 14 for Phoenix.
Pacers 142, Bucks 130
Tyrese Haliburton had 31 points and 12 assists without committing a turnover, and seven Indiana players scored in double figures in Indianapolis in defeating Milwaukee for the second time in as many games.
Facing the Bucks for the fifth time this season and the fourth in fewer than four weeks, Indiana outscored Milwaukee 47-29 in the third quarter and shot 73.9 percent from the floor. Haliburton had six points and seven assists in the period. Bennedict Mathurin had 16 points and Myles Turner and Bruce Brown 15 apiece overall for the Pacers.
Giannis Antetokounmpo led Milwaukee with 26 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. Damian Lillard scored 23 points, but shot just 2-of-8 from 3-point range as the Bucks finished 14-of-37 as a team.
Hawks 141, Thunder 138
Jalen Johnson scored a career-high 28 points to help Atlanta beat visiting Oklahoma City and end the Thunder’s five-game winning streak.
Atlanta led from wire-to-wire and survived a late Oklahoma City rally. The Hawks led by 15 points with 2:27 remaining, but the Thunder cut the lead to three points with 27 seconds left on a bucket by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Oklahoma City was led by Gilgeous-Alexander with 33 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists. It was the eighth time in his last nine games that he has scored 30-plus points. The Thunder also got 21 points from Jalen Williams.
Knicks 116, Bulls 100
Julius Randle scored 35 points while Jalen Brunson and Isaiah Hartenstein each posted double-doubles for host New York, which pulled away to beat Chicago.
Randle scored 23 points in the second half for the Knicks, who outscored the Bulls 65-45 over the final two quarters while improving to 2-0 since OG Anunoby joined the team after a blockbuster trade with the Toronto Raptors last weekend.
DeMar DeRozan scored 28 points while Coby White had 26 points for the Bulls, who lost both ends of a road back-to-back set. Chicago fell to the Philadelphia 76ers 110-97 on Tuesday.
Raptors 116, Grizzlies 111
Immanuel Quickley scored 26 points and Pascal Siakam added 24 as visiting Toronto withstood a fourth-quarter charge by Memphis to pick up a win.
Scottie Barnes had 20 points and Dennis Schroder had 16 for Toronto, which led by as many as 20 in the third quarter. RJ Barrett finished with 14 points as the Raptors improved to 2-0 since acquiring Quickley and Barrett in a trade with the New York Knicks.
Ja Morant led the Grizzlies with 28 points and nine assists. Jaren Jackson Jr. had 24 points as Memphis lost for the fourth time in five games.
Mavericks 126, Blazers 97
Luka Doncic scored a game-high 41 points to lead host Dallas over Portland.
Kyrie Irving added 29 points for the Mavericks, who rebounded from a season-worst 37-point loss to the host Utah Jazz on Monday. Tim Hardaway Jr. netted 14 points and Jaden Hardy chipped in 11 points as Dallas never trailed en route to its third win in as many tries against Portland this season.
Shaedon Sharpe paced the Trail Blazers with 16 points, and Anfernee Simons followed with 15. Matisse Thybulle scored 12 points for Portland, which has dropped the first two contests of its seven-game road trip. Jerami Grant and Toumani Camara each finished with 10 points.
Jazz 154, Pistons 148 (OT)
Jordan Clarkson scored 36 points and Lauri Markkanen had 31 to lift Utah over Detroit in Salt Lake City.
Utah shot 51.5 percent overall, including 16-of-32 from 3-point range, en route to tying a franchise record for points in a game.
Former Jazz players Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks helped Detroit put up its biggest offensive night of the season. Bogdanovic led the team with 36 points and eight 3-pointers, while Burks scored 27 points, including a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to tie the score in regulation.
Pelicans 117, Timberwolves 106
Zion Williamson scored 27 points on 11-for-15 shooting and New Orleans pulled away for a win over Minnesota in Minneapolis.
CJ McCollum tallied 24 points on 8-for-16 shooting for the Pelicans, who won their fourth game in a row. Brandon Ingram scored 19 points, and Herbert Jones finished with 16 points.
Anthony Edwards scored 35 points to lead the Timberwolves, who lost back-to-back games for the first time this season. Karl-Anthony Towns had 22 points.
