Nine Indians, including six women, advanced to the semifinals on Day Three of the Vojvodina Youth Boxing Tournament in Subotica, Serbia.
Nitu (48kg), Divya Pawar (54kg), Jyoti (51kg), Anamika (51kg), Sakshi (57kg) and Manisha (64kg) entered the medal rounds in the women’s draw. Among men, S. Barun Singh (49kg), Bhavesh Kattimani (52kg) and Vijaydeep (69kg) ensured a medal for themselves. Astha Pahwa (75kg) was the rare Indian competitor without a semifinal berth; she lost in the quarterfinals on Friday.
The women started the proceedings; Nitu sailed past Thailand’s Nillada Meekon on a unanimous verdict. Divya claimed a 5-0 win over Hungary’s Betina Kiss before Sakshi defeated Croatia’s Nikolina Cacic by a similar margin.

Jyoti, who defeated Italian Georgia Ross, and Anamika, who triumphed against Kazakhstan’s Zhansaya Abdraimova, secured a 4-1 scoreline. Manisha, on the other hand, dominated in her 5-0 victory over Hungarian Veronika Villas.

Later, in the men’s competition, Barun hardly broke a sweat in his win over Macedonia’s Boban Mijalev. Asian medallist Bhavesh defeated Hungary’s Tamas Borsos, while Vijaydeep had no trouble moving past Bosnia-Herzegovina’s Dragoljub Kulic.
Six other Indian boxers had made the semifinals on Friday, taking the total number of Indian semifinalists to 15.
