Group A

Assam vs Uttar Pradesh : UP is bowled out for 349. After being reduced to 74 for 6, a 246-run partnership between Upendra Yadav and Saurabh Kumar helped helped the team recover. At stumps, Assam scored 25 without losing any wicket.

Maharashtra vs Railways : Maharashtra finishes Day One on 249 for 5.

Amol Karhadkar reports from Pune:

. Even as Naushad Shaikh missed out on a big knock, Ankeet Bawne has entered the 60s without any fuss as Maharashtra goes in to tea at 176 for four. Railways would continue to go after Rohit Motwani, who was tentative outside off, after the break.

. Ankeet Bawne and Naushad Shaikh have been cautious in the first hour after lunch, adding 37 runs in 15 overs to trudge Maharashtra's total to 138 for three. Perhaps it's time to start upping the ante as Railways bowlers start appearing like a tried lot.

. It's been a mixed bag for Maharashtra and Railways in the opening session. Amit Mishra gave Railways the initial breakthrough by forcing a nick off Murtuza Trunkwala's will; Rahul Tripathi then showed a lot of promise before being dubiously adjudged leg-before wicket and Anureet Singh then saw the back of Ruturaj Gaikwad. At 101 for three, captain Ankeet Bawne and in-form Naushad Shaikh will have to play out the afternoon session if Maharashtra aspires to gain an upper hand.

Haryana vs Team Rajasthan : Haryana finishes Day One on 99 for 7 at stumps.

Odisha vs Tamil Nadu : Tamil Nadu is 292 for 3 at stumps on Day One. M. Vijay scored 141. S. Dipak Ragav reports from Cuttack:

. M. Vijay might have joined the squad at the last minute for one final hit before the Sri Lanka series and it was the perfect setting for the India opener to get into groove. It has been a typical Vijay innings, starting off slowly while being compact and unflustered in the middle. He has now cut loose, slamming his 10th Ranji Trophy hundred in the process. The innings has set up TN for a big total with just 10 overs left in the day.

. In what is a crucial game for TN, N. Jagadeesan and M. Vijay, who joined the side in the eleventh hour late on Wednesday, have set up a solid platform thus far. Skipper Abhinav Mukund was dismissed early, thanks to a misunderstanding with Vijay, run out for 12. But Jagadeesan, who was sent up the order, has so far played briskly with ten fours and a six.  Things have slowed down post lunch, but the two have got their eyes in and should look to bat big. . Mumbai lost five wickets for 103 runs at lunch on the first day of the Group C Ranji Trophy tie at the Wankhede stadium. Siddhesh Lad (10 n.o.), Abhishek Nayar (0 n.o.) were at the crease.
