All roughed up and bruised, Tamil Nadu managed to reach 191 for six on day two of the group-C match against Madhya Pradesh in the sixth round of the Ranji trophy here on Saturday.
N. Jagadeesan (94 n.o., 137b, 13x4) and V. Yomahesh (44 n.o., 94b, 1x4, 3x6) put up an unbroken 115-run seventh wicket partnership to offer the visitor some hope.
Ishwar Pandey and Puneet Datey opened the bowling for Madhya Pradesh. Datey started from over the wicket to the left-handed Abhinav Mukund. In his second over, after Mukund played a square cut for four, he was beaten off a delivery that nearly took the outside edge.
Datey switched to bowl from around the wicket and this was probably to assume a straighter line than getting the ball to move across the batsman. The move soon paid off as in the first ball of his fourth over, Datey struck Mukund's off-stump to send him back to the pavillion.

Two balls later, Vijay Shankar was also sent back to the stands as he nicked one going down the leg side and was caught behind.
The batsmen then bided time until lunch. Opener Jagadeesan edged a ball off Avesh Khan that raced through second and the third slip for a boundary and Tamil Nadu reached lunch at 31 for two.
In his first over post lunch, Avesh, with a fine leg and a short leg, bowled short to Jagadeesan and even drew a mistimed pull. Jagadeesan soon retired with cramps and was replaced by Aparajith.
Ishwar Pandey bowled Aparajith on the second ball he faced and aball later, Washington Sundar, the new batsman in the crease, remarkably played an off-drive for four. All this drama occurred in one over.
In his next over, Pandey forced an edge off Washington, but Harpreet Singh at second slip couldn't take it cleanly despite his dive forward. However, Datey came back to get Sundar out and Tamil Nadu was reduced to 54 for four in 30 overs.
Captain Bundela, at one point, shuffled his bowlers and did not keep any two bowlers for an extended spell. Pandey went on to claim two wickets in two overs and had Malolan Rangarajan lbw, after getting Indrajith to nick to the 'keeper.

Bundela then ntroduced spin in the last over before tea through Ankit Sharma. Jagadeesan, who had resumed his innings, got to his fifty the last ball before tea off 97 balls.
Post tea, Madhya Pradesh had a chance to inflict another dismissal, but Yomahesh was dropped at second slip by Harpeet Singh off Datey.
