Chennai: Former Tamil Nadu and South Zone allrounder Diwakar Vasu has been appointed the coach of Tamil Nadu senior team. He has been given a two-year tenure by the TNCA.
The appointment was finalised at the Executive Committee meeting of the TNCA here on Monday. Vasu replaces Hrishikesh Kanitkar as the chief coach.
Vasu has a challenging job before him. In the last two years, Tamil Nadu has failed to qualify for the knock-out stages of the Ranji Trophy and failed to make an impression in the other formats as well.
He has coached sides in the Duleep Trophy and has worked in the bio-mechanical centre at the SRMC Sports Science centre for both the ICC and the BCCI.

The 54-year old Vasu brings with him experience and the knowledge that comes with it. R. Prasanna, who served as Tamil Nadu's fielding coach, will be the assistant coach.
It is understood that apart from being the chief coach, Vasu will devote specific time to focus on the team’s bowling.
Former India paceman, L. Balaji, it is understood, has opted out of the bowling coach’s job which he held for three years. He is busy with his role as the bowling coach of the Chennai Super Kings and also does commentary.
