Days before its Constitution Committee is set to discuss the amendments to be made in accordance with the Supreme Court directive, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has sought clarifications from the court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Sportstar understands that the primary bone of contention for the MCA is about the number of managing committee members positions. The Lodha Committee-suggested model rules and regulations, which have been accepted in toto by the Supreme Court, do not address the managing committee members’ issue.

“Even though the second set of FAQs issued by the Lodha Committee had addressed it, our legal experts have advised us that those FAQs are no longer valid and the CoA has been given the authority for issuing the requisite clarifications,” revealed an MCA insider.

“So we have written to the CoA detailing all our queries. We are hoping that the CoA reverts before the Constitution Committee meeting later this week.”

The MCA is planning to convene the meeting on Friday (February 10). The four-member committee includes Jitendra Awhad, Sanjeev Patki, Dr. Vijay Joshi and Shripad Halbe.

Incidentally, it was on Halbe’s insistence on adopting the Lodha Committee’s rulebook during the Special General Meeting (SGM) last November that the SGM got adjourned. If the Constitution Committee is able to prepare the final draft on Friday, the SGM is likely to be reconvened on or before Feb. 20.
