DC vs GT Highlights, IPL 2023: GT 163/4 (18.1) beats DC 162/8 (20) by six wickets - Sudharsan smashes brilliant unbeaten fifty

Miller tucked Marsh for a comfortable couple as Gujarat Titans defeated Delhi Capitals by six wickets. This was a fabulous run chase and tested the Gujarat batting order after Saha and Gill were off the blocks in a flash only for Nortje to hit back. Sai Sudharsan made an excellent unbeaten 48-ball 62 and not to forget, Vijay Shankar played a solid hand as an Impact Player with a timely knock of 29 off 23 deliveries and forged a match-winning half-century stand along with Sudharshan to keep Gujarat in the hunt. Mitch Marsh did trap Shankar but David Miller blazed away to an unbeaten 31 off 16 balls to win the match for his side.

Miller cracked a boundary and looted 10 runs from Khaleel Ahmed’s over as Gujarat needs just two runs to win the match.

Sai Sudharsan hits a brilliant half-century and he has played a gem of a knock, under pressure and has delivered the goods for his side. A superb swipe over the deep fine leg region for a maximum was the pick of the shot in an innings that was laced with grace and quality. Top knock.

Miller the killer arrives as he smacks Mukesh Kumar for 20 runs in the bowler’s last over to shift the momentum in Gujarat’s favour. A muscle over the deep mid-wicket and then over mid-on followed by a boundary through the extra cover region. Gujarat is on track to chase down the total.

Kuldeep Yadav bowled an excellent over giving just five runs but credit to Sai Sudharsan for not getting tempted and going for the big shots. Miller holds the key though as some big hits will tilt the match in Gujarat’s favour.

Mitch Marsh forced Warner to go for a LBW review and his decision was correct as the all-rounder trapped Impact Player Vijay Shankar to bring back Delhi back into the game. There wasn’t an inside edge and the ball was hitting flush on the pads. Replays suggested three reds and Shankar walked back after the umpire was asked to overturn his decision. David Miller is out in the middle and is off the mark. He will be the key for Gujarat in this tense run chase.

The 50-run partnership between Sai Sudharsan and Vijay Shankar is up and this has been a highly impressive stand. Capitals bring back Nortje in an attempt to break the stand and the fast bowler almost had Sai Sudharsan but the ball was just out of reach of a diving Porel.

The Impact Player is showing his calibre as Shankar pulls Khaleel Ahmed behind the square for a boundary. The 100 is up for Gujarat and it now requires 62 runs off 48 deliveries.

Both Shankar and Sai Sudharsan seem to be in no hurry and are complementing each other with good running between the wickets. Shankar played an excellent shot as the all-rounder smashed Marsh over the deep mid-wicket for a boundary. The partnership is worth 37 and Gujarat has recovered and is pacing its run chase well.

Shankar finds a boundary as he drills Kuldeep Yadav over the bowler’s head for a much-needed one and then the batsmen banked on quick running between the wickets to keep the scorecard moving. At half-way stage, Gujarat needs 80 from 60 balls.

There is not much difference between the current and the required rate as both are hovering around the 8 rpo mark and Sai Sudharsan is looking in good touch playing some crisp shots, especially through the off-side.

Kuldeep Yadav into the attack and Delhi thought they had Sai Sudharsan back in the hut as they went up for a caught behind review but replays suggested there was just a flat line as the ball passed the bottom edge of the bat. Kuldeep begins well but Delhi lose a review.

Vijay Shankar walked in as an Impact Player for Gujarat with Mitch Marsh into the attack. Marsh started with length then quickly switched to full as Shakar with a flick through the square got off the mark with a couple. Decent start from the all-rounder as he gives eight runs in his opening over.

Sai Sudharsan is in good form as he brought the half-century up his side with a neat flick through the mid-wicket. However, Khaleel bowls a peach of a delivery as Hardik Pandya nicked one behind the stumps to give Delhi an upper hand in the game. Khaleel forced the Gujarat skipper to play at a length delivery and Hardik ended up getting an outside edge and Abhishek Porel does the rest.

Anrich Nortje has announced his arrival in some fashion as this time the pacer castles the in-form Shubman Gill to lift Delhi. A 149 kph delivery and Gill had no answer as the ball just nipped back in and Gill got beaten by sheer pace as the ball knocked down the stumps. Sai Sudharsan meanwhile played one of the best shots so far in the tournament by scooping a free hit for a maximum. That was the shot of the day. Hardik Pandya walked in early and drilled the pacer through the covers to get going.

Sai Sudharshan gets into the act as he drives Mukesh Kumar uppishly through the covers for a boundary as Gujarat motors on after the loss of Saha, who fell after playing a little cameo. The quality of Gill’s batting is his subtle wrists that he brings into play, especially while tapping a delivery through the leg side. Gujarat up and running..

Anrich Nortje into the attack and he strikes first ball by castling Saha with a 143.5kph delivery. The opener looked to defend it but the ball nipped back in, beats his inside edge, on to the pads and castled the stumps. There is no stopping Shubman as he plays a lovely shot through the mid-wicket for a boundary.

Shubman Gill is off the blocks in a flash with a couple of boundaries - first by opening his account with a slap through the covers and then displaying a brilliant backfoot punch as the ball rolled past the cover carpet for a boundary. Top start from Gujarat.

Saha is off the blocks as he punches Khaleel through the vacant gap between cover and point for a boundary. The wicketkeeper-batsman then went downtown by smashing the left-arm pacer over the mid-off to get the run chase going. The opener then dispatched Khaleel over the ropes by picking the length early and sending the ball just over the ropes in the deep. 14 runs from the first over and Gujarat is off to a good start.

Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha are out in the middle for the chase and Delhi has introduced its impact player by bringing in Khaleel Ahmed in place of Sarfaraz Khan. Here we go!

Rashid Khan and Mohammed Shami shared six wickets among themselves as Gujarat Titans bowled well to restrict Delhi Capitals to 162/8 in 20 overs. Shami started off well by removing Shaw and Marsh and then Alzarri Joseph took two consecutive wickets by removing Warner and Rilee Rossouw. The introduction of Rashid saw Delhi pushed further on the backfoot as it kept losing wickets with only all-rounder Axar Patel playing a lone hand with a 22-ball 36 to provide some impetus to the innings as the rest of the recognised batsmen failed to fire. We will be back for the chase in a bit.

Rashid Khan picks his third wicket as he removes Aman Hakim Kham who got a leading edge with Hardik Pandya taking a comfortable catch. The 150 is however up for the Capitals.

Axar Patel is playing a little cameo and has showcased his call, this time by lofting Joshua Little for a beautiful six over the long-off region. Little, meanwhile, finished his quota of four overs with figures of 4-0-27-0.

Rashid Khan picked up his second wicket as he ended Sarfaraz Khan’s long vigil at the crease with the batsman failing to execute his sweep shot to perfection with Joshua Little taking a good catch.

Joshua Little back into the attack and he concedes just five runs in his penultimate over as Sarfaraz gets cramped for room and along with Axar could only muster a couple and three singles. Delhi has to go for the late assault and either Axar and Sarfaraz has to get a move on.

Sarfaraz Khan has dropped anchor at one end and this will be a key partnership with Axar Patel and the duo has the power to take Delhi to a good total, if not a huge total. Axar Patel shows his class by smoking Rashind for a maximum well over the long-on for a maximum to provide much-needed momentum.

Rashid Khan comes into the attack and the leg-spinner strikes immediately by deceiving Porel with a full delivery as the ball snakes past the inside edge to castle the stumps. Axar Patel was welcomed with an attacking field with a short leg, leg slip and a slip in place. However, Axar pulled Rashid for a boundary to open his account.

Delhi could have been five down and Sarfaraz nearly walked back after a mistimed shot soared high into the night sky but Little couldn’t latch on it. Porel goes adventurous and audacious after getting hit on the helmet as he swings hard to dispatch Yash Dayal over the deep mid-wicket for a huge maximum to get the 100-up for Delhi.

India and Delhi Capitals cricketer Rishabh Pant is in attendance and this is his first public appearance after the young wicketkeeper-batsman suffered a horrific accident earlier this year.

Abhishek Porel breaks away from the schakles with a firm cut to the third man region when Yash Dayal took an excellent catch but crossed the ropes to hand Porel the maximum. Alzarri Joseph followed it up with a nasty delivery that hit flush on the batsman’s helmet. Abhishek Porel is fine as 10 came from the over.

Hardik Pandya bowls his third over and Sarfaraz Khan moves the scorecard with a cut to the third man boundary as Hardik gave just eight runs, still bowling at an economical spell. Delhi on the mat in their home ground.

Alzarri Joseph nearly took a hat-trick as the fast bowler shifted the momentum in Gujarat’s favour with two back to back wickets by removing Warner and Rilee Rossouw. Warner was the first to depart as the Delhi skipper played-on and then Joseph surprised Rossouw with a peach of a delivery that kicked off the surface as the batsman fended off only for a diving Rahul Tewatia to grab an excellent catch at backward point. Abhishek Porel, the debutant almost handed Joseph a hat-trick as he balooned one to mid-on but the ball fell short. Gujarat well and truly on top on Delhi.

This is a nice recovery from Delhi with Warner taking charge after the fall of two wickets. The partnership with Sarfaraz is already 30 off 22 deliveries and Delhi will hope it only prospers. Hardik bowls a good second over giving just four runs and it’s time for a time-out.

Warner gets into the act and has brought his experience into play by smacking Alzarri Joseph for a couple of boundaries - first over mid-off and then a slash to the third man to give Delhi much-needed impetus. Alzarri bowls into the pads and Warner flicked fine to end the over with a couple.

Hardik Pandya into the act and Gujarat will be happy with the way things have gone for them. Mohammed Shami strikes twice to remove Prithvi Shaw and Mitchell Marsh as David Warner holds fort in company of Sarfaraz Khan.

Shami strikes again and this time he castles Marsh who gets an inside edge and Gujarat has already picked two wickets inside the PowerPlay. Warner is struggling to time the ball but Delhi would hope the skipper stands tall.

Joshua Little bowled a terrific over keeping Warner on strike and not letting the batsman get away. Warner played five dot balls and then was surprised by a high full toss as Warner swung hard and got a top-edge. Warner reviewed it but lost it.

Shami with the first breakthrough as despite spraying down the leg, he breaks the opening stand by removing Prithvi Shaw who pulls only to walk back as the opener fails to get the distance giving a simple catch to Alzarri Joseph. Mitchell Marsh joins Warner.

Prithvi Shaw is off the mark with a hard slash for a single to the third man region and then Warner seemed to get stuck in the crease but Joshua Little helped the batsman by providing some width and Warner cashed in by cracking the white ball through the covers for a boundary.

Interesting first over from Shami as he started with a wide and then bowled a jaffa that beat Warner’s defence and kissed the stumps before thudding into Saha’s gloves. Warner was then tested by a back of length delivery that nipped back in with Saha taking an excellent grab, but there was no bat involved. Shami then erred in line as he sprayed down the leg side with the ball running away to the fine leg fence twice. 11 runs from the first over.

David Warner and Prithvi Shaw are out in the middle and it will be Mohammed Shami who will start proceedings with the new ball. Here we go!

“Dimensions - 64 metres on either side, 70 metres down the ground. This wicket is smack bang in the middle. Remember what we saw a couple of weeks ago in the Test match, there was not a blade of grass to be seen. This wicket has a nice even covering of grass. This is an unbelievably flat wicket. I expect there will be a little bit more pace and a little bit more carry to assist the swing and the seam bowlers. But there are a couple of parts on this wicket that are very dry. Even though they are dry, don’t expect that to have a huge influence on this game. 165 is the average score here. The trend of this tournament has been teams wanting to chase. Personally, I wouldn’t be against trying to bat first, get a big total and try and put as much pressure on the opposition as you can.”

Sourav Ganguly has backed Sarfaraz Khan to keep wickets, hinting that Delhi Capitals could give him a long rope. Speaking ahead of the home team’s upcoming match against Gujarat Titans, Ganguly said, “The game has changed. At this level, the pressure is different. He kept wickets for Mumbai in this year’s Vijay Hazare Trophy. Sarfaraz Khan has just kept in one match. So, judging him for 20 overs is not fair.”

Injured Delhi Capitals regular captain Rishabh Pant is likely to watch the team’s first home game against Gujarat Titans on Tuesday from the Feroz Shah Kotla stands. He might also sit in the dug-out if the franchise can secure requisite permission from the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU).
