Ahead of the IPL opener, Mumbai Indians suffered a setback as Lasith Malinga is set to miss a major part of the tournament.
Last season, Malinga was part of Mumbai Indians' support staff but this year, the franchise brought him back as a specialist bowler for Rs. 2 crore.
Malinga will not be available for at least first six matches as he will play the Super Provincial One Day domestic tournament.
The Sri Lankan selectors have told the players that they must feature in the domestic tournament to be considered for the ICC World Cup 2019.
Even though he did not play the IPL last year, he remains the highest wicket-taker in the tournament's history, with 154 scalps.
