Bangladesh suffered a major blow on Saturday as its skipper Shakib al Hasan was ruled out of the Nidahas Trophy. A day before leaving for Sri Lanka to play the tri-series, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided to bring in stumper-batsman Liton Das as a replacement for Shakib.
It is learnt that the all-rounder has not been able to recover from the finger injury he sustained last month during the tri-series at home. “Shakib will be travelling to Australia for treatment and that’s why he will not be travelling with the side for the Nidahas Trophy,” BCB’s chairman of cricket operations, Akram Khan, told Sportstar on Saturday.
With Shakib missing out on the tournament, Liton — who has the experience of tackling tricky situations — will have to play a major role to bolster the side’s batting department.
