Post-match comments

Hero of the Match, Nerijus Valskis: " I am very happy with the two goals. We were solid in defence and had some good chances in the first half but FCG was good. We scored 3 goals and we wanted to keep a clean sheet but we have won. It's a good win and gives us a lot of confidence."

FC Goa goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh: "Tbh, it hasn't been a good start for the whole team. I want to take some responsibility in this game, I should've done better during the second goal. I put the team under pressure, I have to accept that. We have 18 games ahead and need to focus on them and prepare well for them."

FC Goa head coach Juan Ferrando: "We are not happy, 2 games and 0 pts. We are very upset at this point. The focus now is on the emotions in the dressing room. Every coach wants his best players and the best lineup. We have been unlucky with injures, but we can't use it as an excuse."

Jamshedpur FC head coach Owen Coyle: "We always felt that we are going to go and win the game. Both goalkeepers made some wonderful saves. Dheeraj made two or three wonderful saves. I know little moments changed the game but we were by far the better team tonight so there's no argument about who's going to win the game."

MATCH REPORT: ISL 2021-22: Valskis, Murray star in Jamshedpur FC's 3-1 against FC Goa

90+3' CHANCE- Cabrera sees Rehenesh off his line and lobs the ball from outside the box. But the forward does not connect well with his effort.

90+1' SAVE- A well-worked freekick by JFC sees Boris Singh slip in. He is one-on-one with Dheeraj. He lashes a shot at the keeper but Dheeraj makes himself big and dishes out an extraordinary save.

90' Cabrera brings down Valskis and its a JFC foul. A good way to kill some time. A comeback looks unlikely but its anything is possible in football.

88' BOOKING- JFC's Narender Gahlot sees yellow.

86' GOOOOAAAALLLL!!! FC GOA PULLS ONE BACK!! ITS CABRERA!! A great cross by Ortiz from the left. Cabrera took it down well and slotted the balll home past Rehenesh.

85' JFC SUB- Ritwik Das replaces Doungel.

83' CLOSE- Edu Bedia with a brilliant volley but his effort hits the crossbar and cannons back into play. So close from going in. This actually sums up their night to be honest.

81' GOOOOOAAAAAALLLL!!! JORDAN MURRAY SCORING WITH HIS FIRST TOUCH!! THREE FOR JFC!! Talk about having an impact. Jordan Murray replaces Stewart and his first involvement in the game is to outmuscle a FC Goa defender from a cross and guide the ball past Dheeraj.

80' SUB- Jordan Murray replaces Stewart.

77' Aiban and Rehenesh on the ground after both players clashed against each other from a corner. It was a good take from the keeper.

75' FC Goa screams for a penalty as Laldinliana brings down Cabrera inside the box but referee says nothing doing. That was a dangerous one by the JFC player.

73' JAMSHEDPUR FC SUB- Boris Singh replaces Thatal.

73' FC GOA SUB- Nongdamba Naorem replaces Seriton.

71' Sanson tries to curl a ball in from the left but the cross is weak. Hartley clears the ball without any difficulty.

64' FC GOA SUBS- Airam Cabrera and Lalhmangaihsanga replace Gonzalez and Murgaonkar.

61' GOOOAAAALLLLLL!!!! ITS VALSKIS AGAIN!!! TWO FOR JAMSHEDPUR!! A training ground goal as Stewart curls one in from a freekick. Valskis breaks away from his marker and heads the ball home past Dheeraj.

60' BOOKING- Sanson of FC Goa becomes the second player to get booked for his late challenge on Stewart.

56' Stewart takes the freekick but he cannot get it over the wall as the ball is cleared momentarily.

55' Ortiz brings down Lima in a dangerous position. The Men of Steel with a chance to make it two.

51' GOOOOOAAAAALLL!!!! JFC SCORES!! ITS VALSKIS!! THE DROUGHT IS OVER!! Doungel with a great ball to Stewart, who did well to set up Valskis for the shot. Valskis had a brilliant first-touch and slotted it past a diving Dheeraj.

50' SAVE- Save of the match by Rehenesh. Noguera played a wonderful through ball, which allowed the player to slip and shoot across goal but Rehenesh showing his reflexes to tip the ball away.

49' Edu Bedia whips in a low-hard cross into the JFC box. It took everyone by surprise but Rehenesh did well to get a hand to it. The rebound could have been dangerous but JFC clears.

47' There are no half-time substitutions to report.

46' Both teams back after a half-time talk talk by their respective coaches. Let's see what the second half unfolds.

Owen Coyle will be a frustrated manager at half-time. Apart from a goal being disallowed, he has seen his team fail to capitalise on goalscoring chances, which keeps the match goalless at the break.

Juan Ferrando on the other hand will be thankful to go in at half-time without conceding a goal and will thank Dheeraj for his excellent keeping between the sticks. FC Goa has managed to create some chances of its own but has also been sloppy and given away possession cheaply at times.

Stay tuned!! Live second half action after a short break!!

45+2' A great inward run by Ortiz from the left flank. He tried to go past his marker inside the box and get his shot away but great defending as the shot is blocked.

45' Another bit of sloppy play by FC Goa, this time by Glan Martins. He lost the ball to Doungel, who did well to pass it to Valskis. Valskis took a shot but Dheeraj saves the day for FC Goa yet again. The 2019-20 Golden Boot winner's goal drought continues.

42' SHOT- Ortiz takes a shot on the turn out of nowhere from quite an acute angle. It had too much power as the ball goes out of play. Not too far away.

40' Some sloppy defending at the back allowed JFC to pounce on the ball in a dangerous position. Valskis found Doungel free on the right flank. Doungel's initial shot was saved brilliantly by Dheeraj and the rebound was skied by the former.

37' Noguera catches Stewart's toe and the referee plays the advantage. Nothing comes of it as the eventual shot is wide off the target.

35' SHOT- Lima takes a shot on the turn from a long way out as Dheeraj sees the ball sail above his goal.

34' Possession Stat: FC Goa- 70% Jamshedpur FC- 30%

31' The early JFC pressure has dissipated now and we are seeing FC Goa implement its trademark gameplay right now under Ferrando- using the full width of the pitch, stretching the opposition and drawing the opponent players out of their position.

Match resumes!!

Match halts for a drinks break!!

27' FC Goa trying to play a passing game and penetrate the JFC defence but captain Peter Hartley is doing a great job in organising and leading his backline.

25' BOOKING- JFC skipper Peter Hartley sees yellow.

24' Another dangerous corner taken by Thatal but Dheeraj reads it well. It was an inswinger but the young keeper judged the flight of the ball and clutched it safely.

21' JFC on the frontfoot right now. Coyle's team has been excellent from the flanks with lot of balls coming in from both sides.

18' Noguera found himself in space and slipped a pass to Murgaonkar on the left flank. The youngster had enough time to put a ball in but his cross was late and weak, which allows JFC to clear.

16' Seriton makes a surging run down the right flank and attempts to drive a cross in but it is intercepted.

15' Komal Thatal is looking dangerous from the left flank every time he makes a run. He has gotten the better of Seriton everytime till now. A bit of support might be good for the full-back.

12' FC Goa hanging by a thread right now as JFC seems to be choking the Goa backline with the pressure it is applying. Dheeraj has done well to keep the match goalless till now. The Goa defence all over the place.

8' GOAL RULED OUT!! OFFSIDE!! A short corner worked by JFC led to Thatal curling a shot in from the right flank. The ball beat everyone and went inside goal. It would have been a great goal but the assistant referee raises his flag. Offiside.

7' CHANCE- Early chance for JFC as Valskis slipped in and toepoked it to Dheeraj's near post. But the save is made.

5' A fast start to the game with FC Goa pressing Jamshedpur players in their own half. The Gaurs have started on the frontfoot.

4' Thatal slips near the D and loses the ball, but Hartley swoops in to clear the danger.

3' It's a special day for FC Goa goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh, who has been included in the 2021 AFC Champions League Team of the Season for his impressive performances in the Gaurs' campaign earlier in the year.

MATCH PREVIEW: ISL 2021: FC Goa aims to hit back against Jamshedpur FC

Starting with a loss to its arch-rival Mumbai City FC in its season-opener,  FC Goa  will be keen to pocket its first points when it takes on  Jamshedpur FC  at the Athletic Stadium in Bambolim in the Indian Super League (ISL 2021-22) on Friday.

FC Goa started with a rather young defensive line-up that struggled to deal with Mumbai City’s attacking firepower. Former Gaurs striker Igor Angulo turned tormentor as he struck a brace to lead the defending champion to a win

Looking back at the loss, Goa coach Juan Ferrando said, “Our performance against Mumbai was not good. We’re working on our plan and our style ahead of Friday’s game. It’s necessary to learn (from the loss) but our focus is on the next game.”

The Spaniard added that he wants his side to be more compact and press higher up the pitch. “In transitions when we lose the ball, it’s important for us to be more compact. For example, we lost the ball twice in the second half and our transition wasn’t good. In the case of the first goal, we lost the ball due to the foul and there we lacked transition too. It’s very important to control space when in attack and in the overlap because recovery of the ball is crucial and we need to press as the opponent has a lot of space, as such it’s difficult for us to defend this action.”

Jamshedpur FC is also looking for its first win of the season after playing out a 1-1 with SC East Bengal. Owen Coyle’s side was denied a spot in the semifinal last year after losing to FC Goa and has only beaten the Gaurs twice in eight games.

Coyle is wary of the challenge. “They (FC Goa) are going to be hurting from losing the first game. They’re going to be like a wounded animal who is dangerous. We know if we are our best as a team we can win and that's our focus. We have to be very respectful of FC Goa. They are a fantastic club, with a great philosophy, great players and outstanding young coach Juan Ferrando,” he said.

The Scottish manager added that his side needed to be more clinical in finishing chances upfront.
