Former world number one Jordan Spieth is within a shot of the lead after inclement weather forced the opening round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am to be suspended.
The PGA Tour tournament got off to a stormy start during the practice rounds and the poor weather continued as rain halted play on Thursday, with the round brought to premature end following an initial suspension at 13:34 (local time).
Two-time major champion Spieth was through 16 holes when play was called off, adrift of leading trio Rick Lamb, Joel Dahmen and Noh Seung-Yul at four under.
Lamb, Dahmen and Noh all completed their rounds before bad weather set in.
Spieth - playing Monterey Peninsula's Shore Course - was three under with two holes remaining before heading into the clubhouse.
He had five birdies and two bogeys to be within touching distance of the summit.
Tim Wilkinson and Nick Watney (both through 13) are level with Spieth, as well as Mark Hubbard (69).
United States Ryder Cup captain Jim Furyk carded a two-under-par 70 on Spyglass one day after integrating the new points system for his hopeful team members.
World number one Jason Day bounced back from a missed cut at the Farmers Insurance Open to fire a first-round 69 at Monterey.
Starting on the back nine, Day opened with a birdie and he gained a stroke at the 16th, having bogeyed 13, before birdieing the first and sixth holes following the turn.
U.S. Open champion Dustin Johnson is one under through 16 holes at Monterey.
Like Day, Johnson missed the cut at Torrey Pines, but he finished tied for second the week before on the European Tour.
