"Just more of the same". That is Jimmy Walker's mindset heading into the weekend as the US PGA Championship co-leader aims to clinch a maiden major title.
Walker maintained his position atop the leaderboard, though he has company this time around in the form of fellow American Robert Streb, with the pair sharing a two-stroke lead after the second round at Baltusrol.
After opening with a 65, Walker continued to impress on Friday as he improved to nine under through 36 holes via a 66, despite bogeying the last in Springfield, New Jersey.
Now in an unfamiliar position at the top of a major championship, Walker was asked about his approach ahead of the remaining two rounds, and he said: "I've never done it before, but I would imagine just more of the same.
"It's just golf and you have to go out and hit the golf shots. Doesn't matter what tournament it is or where you're at. Any tour event, you still have to go out and hit the golf shots. That's how I look at every week."
Walker has never finished better than seventh at a major, and that came at the 2014 PGA Championship.
The 37-year-old also tied for eighth at the Masters and shared ninth at the U.S. Open two years ago, but Walker feels like he has been on the right track in 2016.
"I felt close. I can't describe it any way other than that. It's right there," he added.
"It's just a matter of time before the good play and continuous good play was going to start happening. You kind of got to wait for it. You don't know when it's going to happen. I feel like everything was starting to trend the right way."
Walker was flawless on the front nine, birdieing the fifth and eighth holes and he continued to post birdies after the turn, picking up shots at the 12th, 13th and 14th.
The only blemish in Walker's round came at the 18th, when he bogeyed the par-five as Streb closed in.
"Feels good. I was excited to come play today. I felt like I could go out and shoot another good score," Walker said. "I saw what the weather was going to do and knew that it was going to be out there to play good. If you hit the shots, you knew it was going to be there for you to make some birdies.
"I was excited to go play today, I really was. I was nervous, but excited. I'm real happy with today."
