The fourth round of the MRF MoGrip FMSCI National Rally Championship for two wheelers, promoted by Godspeed Racing (Pune) and organised by the Coimbatore Auto Sports Club (CASC), will be held at the Kethanur windmill farms in Palladam this weekend.

With rains battering the city like never before, the CASC had a tough time organising the four wheeler championship earlier this month. But its men, who have the experience of organising top-notch events for over four decades, stood up to the challenge to make it a perfect weekend for the competitors. This time around, with the rains staying away, CASC can breathe easy.

“The club is pleased to host this rally once again. Also, I would like to thank the event sponsors MRF for their support and contribution towards the development of the sport in the country,” said J. Prithiviraj, its honorary secretary.

TVS Racing’s R.E. Rajendra, who called the shots in the first three rounds, is expected to do one better on the road to the National title.

The stages, a mix of dirt and gravel, are set around the picturesque windmill farm and it’s going to be a treat to watch for both the competitors and the spectators. The total distance is 109.27kms of which the Special Stages will be 56.90kms. Unlike last year, there will be two Special Stages — Black Thunder (14.35kms) and Thunder World (14.10kms) and it will be run twice in the same direction.

Seventy riders have confirmed participation across nine classes that form the National championship. There is also the ‘Star of Tamil Nadu’ category which is exclusively for the State riders. It has attracted 12 riders. The documentation, scrutiny, recee and riders’ briefing will be done on August 24.

It will be followed by the flag off by P.R.G Arunkumar MLA (Coimbatore North) and V.P. Kandaswamy MLA (Sulur) from Hotel Gokulam Park on the Avinashi Road at 5 p.m.

The main races will start the next day from the Service Park at Kethanur at 9 a.m.
