Rutura Bhosale enters pre-quarterfinals

Rutuja Bhosale beat Natsuho Arakawa of Japan 6-2, 7-6(4) in the first round of the $25,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament in Chiang Rai, Thailand, on Wednesday.

Karman Kaur Thandi also made the second round, while Riya Bhatia went down fighting in three sets to the second seed Peangtarn Plipuech of Thailand.

Tanussh knocks out Vansh at national under-16 championship

Tanussh Ghildyal knocked out third seed Vansh Nandal 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the boys pre-quarterfinals of the Ramesh Desai memorial national under-16 tennis championship at the KDLTA Complex on Wednesday.

In the girls section, Harithashri Venkatesh beat the third seed Sreenidhi Balaji 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals.

SHOOTING

Swapnil Kusale in final

Swapnil Kusale shot the second best score of 591 behind Serhiy Kulish of Ukraine in qualifying for the knock-out stage of men’s 50-metre rifle 3-position event in the shooting World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan,
on Wednesday.

Goldi Gurjar (585), Deepak Kumar (583) placed 14th and 23rd in a field of 53 shooters, had made it to the qualification from the elimination round.

The ranking matches for the event will be held on Thursday.
