Khelo India Games: 19 gold medals up for grabs in shooting

The Games will have under-21 and under-17 age groups will have men’s 25 metre rapid fire pistol, women’s 25-metre sports pistol, 50-metre rifle 3-position events, apart from the trap and skeet for men and women.

The shooting competition of the Khelo India Youth Games, offering 19 gold medals, will open on Friday, with the men’s air rifle.

Unlike the Khelo India School Games, that featured only the air rifle and air pistol events, the second edition with under-21 and under-17 age groups will have men’s 25 metre rapid fire pistol, women’s 25-metre sports pistol, 50-metre rifle 3-position events, apart from the trap and skeet for men and women.

The shotgun events, including the mixed competition in trap, will be only for the under-21 age group, and so will be the rifle 3-position event, and the 25-metre pistol events for men and women.

Some of the brightest talent including the Youth Olympics gold and silver medallists, Manu Bhaker, Saurabh Chaudhary, Mehuli Ghosh will be fighting for the medals and a chance to clinch government support.

Asian Games silver medallists in trap  and double trap, Lakshay Sheoran and Shardul Vihan, will light up the shotgun arena, that has a resounding echo.
