Michael Phelps is perhaps the fastest human on water. At his best, like he's proven in several Olympics, he can race anyone. But he was only the second best to a Great White shark.

On Sunday, the world's most decorated Olympian completed 100m in open ocean off South Africa in 38.1 seconds to the shark's 36.1.

After the race, Phelps asked for a rematch albeit on warmer water.

Some fans, who were looking forward to the much-hyped 'Man v Beast' contest, were disappointed, as the race, aired by Discovery, was just a montage of Phelps swimming alongside a computer-generated shark.
