Bianca Andreescu has withdrawn from the Charleston Open with a shoulder injury.

The Indian Wells champion saw her 10-match winning streak end because of the problem, which forced her to retire from her Miami Open fourth-round match with Anett Kontaveit. Andreescu was trailing 6-1 2-0 at the time.

She told reporters afterwards: "I have played so many matches. I guess this is just a way of my body telling me that it's had enough.

"The physios and the doctor said that it's nothing too serious, but the pain is there, and I couldn't continue."

Kiki Bertens will defend her title in South Carolina, having beaten Julia Goerges in last year's final.
