World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz takes on USA’s Ben Shelton in the second round of the Canadian Open, an ATP 1000 Masters event, in Toronto on Wednesday.

The clash is scheduled to be the third match on the Center Court on the third day of this year’s edition.

When and where to watch?
The Canadian Open 2nd round clash between Carlos Alcaraz and Ben Shelton will be live streamed in India on SonyLiv from 4:30AM IST on August 10.

Alcaraz, the 20-year-old Spaniard, is set to play his first Tour-level match since beating Novak Djokovic in a five-set thriller in the Wimbledon final. Alcaraz did play two singles and mixed doubles ties at the Hopman Cup but his real preparation for the US Open title defense begins now.

Top seed Alcaraz got a bye in the first round.

On the other hand, World No. 41 Shelton began his campaign with a 7-6(1), 6-4 win over Bernabe Zapata Miralles, Alcaraz’ compatriot, in the opening round. The American is looking to reach the third round of a Masters event for the first time since making his debut at this level in Cincinnati last year.

Head-to-head record

This will be the first-ever meeting between Alcaraz and Shelton. The 20-year-old American began this year with an impressive run to the Australian Open quarterfinals. Coached by his father Bryan, former World No. 55, left-handed Shelton already has a solid serve while the other aspects of his game continue to develop.

Alcaraz has a 22-7 win-loss record on the ATP Tour against southpaws with his most recent encounter against a leftie being the second-round tie against compatriot Albert Ramos-Vinolas at the Italian Open which Alcaraz won 6-4, 6-1.
