Pari Singh was the only Indian player to make it to the ITF Asian under-14 team for the European circuit.
With six boys and six girls being selected for the Asian team, there was ample scope for the Indian players. However, the fact that three were selected on the basis of the two tournaments in Uzbekistan and three more were included on the basis of the performances in the World junior tennis, made it hard for some of the good players who had won the title like Yuvan Nandal to make the cut.
Pari did make one final and lost early in the second tournament. But, she was quite impressive in winning her singles matches in the World Junior tennis event in the Asia Oceania zone in Kuala Lumpur. However, she was lucky to gain a slot in the Asian team as one of the originally selected player expressed inability to be part of the European circuit.
The players and the coaches are scheduled to reach Paris on July 4 for the European circuit. After three days of training in Paris, the players will compete in a tournament in Paris. The following week they will have a tournament in the Netherlands. The third and fourth weeks will feature tournaments in Nantes, France and Duren, Germany. The fifth tournament will be in Hasselt, Belgium, from August 5 to 11.
The Asian team will have its expenses covered by the Grand Slam Development Fund.
