India's Prajnesh Gunneswaran put up a strong fight but it wasn't enough to undo 15th seed Milos Raonic as he fell to a 6-7 (1), 4-6, 2-6 loss in the first round of Wimbledon on Monday.
The Indian got off to a strong start and impressed with his powerful ground strokes, taking the first set to a tie-breaker. However, an untimely double fault in the tie-breaker handed Raonic a 3-1 lead and the Canadian took the next four points to pocket the first set.
Former world number 3 Raonic held on to momentum and broke the Prajnesh's first service game in the second set. The Indian had two breakpoints the following game but failed to capitalise and wasn't able to trouble Raonic much as the Canadian ran away with the set to secure a two set cushion.
Much like the second, Raonic broke Prajnesh once again in the first game of the third set and followed it up with another break in the fifth game to soar to a 4-1 lead. He held on to win the tie off his first match point and march into the second round.
